listen to the band

coworker got annoyed with me because i said he couldn't leave earlier than he usually does. he ALWAYS leaves early at 3 instead of his scheduled time of 3:30 because he wants to catch the ferry to go to a one piece tournament at his local card shop or go to the gym even though hes always telling me how broke he is. and most of the time i let him because i can cover the cafe alone until our other coworker gets in (we're supervisors together). he wanted to leave at 2 today because he said a guest was rude to him because he interrupted him making coffee drinks to ask for a cup of water. instead of saying "oh give me a sec" or asking our other coworker (who wasn't doing anything) to get him a cup of water, he tells the guest to ask our coworker for it and when the guest didn't want to, he got short with him and told him again to ask our coworker. like cmon its a glass of water, yeah the guest may have interrupted his flow but its not that serious.

then he got irritated with me for saying he couldn't just leave early because i don't have the coverage just because he was irritated by that guest. like it wasn't even that big of a deal, hes told me worse interactions with guests, we BOTH have gone through the shit together but if he'd just take a step back, he'd understand he's just wasting his breath going back and forth with guests. it's better to keep calm and polite and be patient. and if it's actually that serious i can step in or our manager can.

my gm is thinking of promoting someone to shift lead and he wanted my opinion (i'm a supervisor so i have no stakes in this) and he knows my coworker has these issues (he gave him a verbal warning then a coaching document on his attendance and tardiness before). so i said he'd be great as shift lead but he just reacts poorly sometimes. my gm agreed but is still deciding.
