Witchy Self Care 🧿🔮🌿

lemon and lavender cake cleansing spell!!

im super happy with it

275g SR flour

150g sugar

1 tsp baking powder

one lemon's zest

as much lavender as you want

mix, and ask that as the grains bind to the zest and lavender, peace & rest & calm come to you and your home

175ml cold water

50ml melted margarine

50-100ml oat milk

give it one last mix, and ask that as the ingredients all bind together, negativity is banished from your sacred home & that only good fortune will come your way

cook for an around hour at 180°C

leave it out to cool, and let the hot air cleanse the area

create a glaze from some icing sugar and lemon juice (i just did this by eye) to put on top when the cake has cooled!!

Spiritual burnout and stress is a real phenomenon that doesn’t always get talked about in the community. If you’re feeling like you’re disconnected from your path, it’s okay. You’re a human being with an incredibly complex set of emotions that is uniquely tailored to you.

Take a step back to assess what it is you’re struggling with.

Comparing your blog/BoS/grimoire/practice to others? Stop. It’s never beneficial to compare oneself to others. Unlike inspiration, comparison can fuel low self-image, doubt, fear, hopelessness, jealousy, and even anger/resentment

What external factors could be influencing you? Work? Family? Friends? The ongoing trauma that is COVID-19? These can indirectly and directly impact us and manifest as anxiety, depression, adjustment D/O, or trauma-related symptoms

If taking medication: Are you taking them as prescribed? Is the medication itself or dosage effective still or has your body built up a tolerance? Do you speak with your prescriber on a regular basis? If not...set up a follow-up. Feel like you’d prescriber dismisses your concerns? Consider finding a new prescriber

If seeing a therapist: Are you comfortable with him/her/them? Do you feel like you can disclose what’s happening with you without judgement? If not, consider finding a new therapist

Have you expanded your knowledge and research to include newer topics that can spark interest and curiosity? Sometimes if you’re stuck or even bored with a topic, you can lose interest and become distracted which is quite normal to experience

Are you drinking enough water? Seriously! Water is important for overall health

When’s the last time you were able to breathe fresh air and feel the sun on your skin? I understand that due to the circumstances, it’s not possible for everyone to go outside but if possible, open a window

Do you know of fellow witches you feel comfortable reaching out to and exploring your scenario with? If not, introduce yourself to folks you feel are approachable and may understand the bind you’re in. FYI- more “seasoned” witches experience this as well. Nobody is immune

For those of us who aren’t cut out for the frontlines:

1. Build a ritual around donating to a support fund. This might look like blessing the money you plan to send with petitions for safety and protection. You might do a money abundance spell so that the money you send begets more money sent by others. Maybe you petition any deities you work with to protect protesters and donate the money in your deity’s honor.

2. Research solutuons to get residue from tear gas and mace off of someone’s skin and use kitchen witchery to weave magic into making that solution. Then donate that shit to protesters near you. From what I’ve read, milk soothes the burn (only on skin) and regular soapy water will help remove the residue but please do your own research. You could bless the milk, saline, soap, water, whatever and make mixtures to give out to protesters and protest medics. Maybe using moon water in the solution to bring love and light into the lives of those the spray has to be used on.

3. Use knot magic to give an extra boost while sewing masks for protesters! With COVID-19 still very much impacting people around the world it’s important for us to do everything we can to minimize the spread during protests. Consider using a glamour on a mask you’re making to make someone’s words more persuasive. Maybe put knots in the stitching to help a protester hold onto their courage to speak out or which helps them come closer together with the commonity they are protesting with.

4. Support black witches! Buy tarot readings and spell ingredients. Promote their shops and work, listen to their voices, donate to their causes.

On the frontlines:

1. Put sigils into your protest signs or under your clothes to bring you courage, protection, and influence. You might also cleanse goggles or an umbrella you take to shield you from mace. Sigils on boxes of bandaging and petitions to deities for healing and guidance are also possibilities.

2. Ward your home and offer it as a safe escape for protesters who have been trapped outside (more and more we are seeing police preventing people from leaving before curfew then arresting and attacking protesters who are now suddenly violating curfew). Be aware that the police will almost definitely attempt to come to your home to arrest the protesters and read up on your rights.

3. Make showering off and wound care part of a ritual when returning home from the protest. This will allow you to care for your mental health and physical health and cleanse yourself of the intense energy that comes with protesting knowing you are in danger.

Take care of yourselves in these times. The world is trying to change and growth on this scale is necessarily painful. Taking care of yourself *is* a way to take care of others. You cannot pour from an empty cup nor get someone to the hospital in an ambulance with only two weels.

Taking medication for psychiatric issues does not weaken your magickal abilities or witchcraft practice.

Be mindful of the content you’re putting on your social media accounts. Stop retweeting/reposting violent images and videos of black people dying. Know that content like this, even with trigger warnings included, can be very emotionally disturbing/distressing and yes, even traumatic, for black people navigating the internet right now.

Report any images and videos you see where protestors’ faces are visible/unblurred, particularly in content surrounding the lootings. Don’t retweet or repost these images and videos. This can be a death sentence.

Hello, honey bees, firstly, I just want to say that I hope you're all staying safe and taking good care of yourselves and each other during this devastating time. The current state of the world is definitely affecting everybody, in various different ways, including us witches. I know for a lot of us not only have our daily routines been affected, but our magickal practices as well. So, with that thought in mind, I thought I would compile a list of tips, and ideas to keep your practice thriving.

For Essential Witches:

Start your day with a magickal routine (whether that be blessing your morning beverage, spending time at your altar, enchanting items you will use throughout the day, etc.)

Protect yourself (set up shields, carry around protective crystals or sachets, cast a protective spell, etc.)

Apply hand sanitizer as an anointing ritual (set your intention, create a chant to promote good health, safety, and positivity for the day ahead of you.)

Make the process of washing your hands a short, and simple cleansing of the energy you've been surrounded by throughout the day.

During your breaks take a few moments to ground and/or center yourself.

After you've returned home do a thorough cleansing process (smoke cleanse yourself and your clothes, ritually bathe your personal items, have a salt bath, take the time to magickally care for yourself, etc.)

You are putting yourself in harm's way everyday, and I appreciate you and your service so much. Please be safe, take care of yourself and your loved ones, and know that I, and many other witches, will be sending out healing, and positive energy in your direction.

For Witches Stuck at Home:

Start your day on a positive note (have a herbal bath, make breakfast with ingredients that will boost your energy and your mood, do yoga, etc.)

Take this free time to research sects or parts of magick/witchcraft you haven't had the time to look into.

Spend your afternoon astral projecting

Cleanse your home (smoke cleansing, minimizing, open your windows, use bells/windchimes/music to cleanse, etc)

Change up your altar

Bless or cast protective spells for the essential workers in your life.

Work on your grimoire, book of shadows, or witchy journal - if you don't have one start one

You are complying with the guidelines and staying home, I'm so proud of you for that. Although I know how stagnating and disheartening it can be to stay inside, and social distance yourself, you are doing your part and you should be proud of yourself

Other Tips:

Spend time outside, while social distancing, whether going for a walk, spending time in your garden, or exploring areas that you are allowed to spend time in. Connecting with nature, even in small lapses, can help boost your mood, and your spirit

Gather and forage natural items for your practice (herbs, flowers, dirt, water, crystals/stones, fruits, etc while being safe and ethically sourcing everything)

If you need to buy items for your practice from stores, try buying locally to support your community, and only during your essential trips

Draw protective sigils on your hands with hand sanitizer whenever you must leave your house

Line your front door with a dried herb wreath or tie a herbal sachet to your doorknob to promote good health

Stay connected to your witchy community (send each other rituals, spells and sigils, video chat with your witchy friends or coven, have a live ritual with your friends, etc)

The possibilities are endless

Energy work is literally as discreet as it gets. No one else can see any signs that you are practicing magic - it’s all visualization and sometimes sensation. I have an [energy work masterpost] that might prove beneficial - some of the links are dead, but I plan to do something about that today and update it for this blog.

One of the best parts of energy work is enchanting stuff - you can put magic and energy into any item you already own and make it into a spell! Enchanting jewelry is pretty awesome for this, and I do it very often myself. But, seriously, you can enchant soaps / shampoos / body washes as cleansers, you can enchant the food and beverages you drink for healing or strength or protection… Seriously, enchanting.

Meditation kind of goes hand in hand with energy work. It allows one to get in a specific mindset that can be beneficial for magic. Not to mention how relaxing it is - it can be super useful for helping one ground / discharge excess energy.

Sigils are also pretty discreet - you can keep them in a sketchbook and just call them doodles. You can also save them to your cell phone and hide them in a folder. I have a [sigil FAQ masterpost] that talks a lot about sigils, what they are, what they can and can’t do, as well as provides lots of links for creating and charging sigils. [sigilscribe.me] is an awesome website that generates sigils for you, if you find you’re not good at it yourself, and you can just screenshot them and save them to your phone. Sigils!

Candles and incense are pretty discreet, if you are allowed to have fire and smoke in your area. Claim to use them as air fresheners of sort, to make your room smell better. Here is a [candle spell template] and some tips for [selecting and preparing a candle for spell work].

Honestly, phones are awesome for discreet magic. There are apps to make sigils, apps for spells, digital candle apps - even divination apps! You can have hidden folders that contain spells for a secret grimoire / Book of Shadows (Tumblr is awesome for that too, as well as Google Docs).

Using the herbs and spices that you already have in your kitchen is useful. Also, I saw another post mention disguising an interest in herbs with an interest in cooking - if you can or want to, that is. So yeah, kitchen magic can be hidden pretty easily too. 

[Tea magic]! I almost forgot this one! Just develop a sudden love for drinking tea. There are so many different kinds of teas that can be charged for so many intents.

Bath magic is pretty low-key too. Again, you can enchant the soaps and stuff you already have, or you can get some basic supplies for baths. Epsom salts are pretty cheap, and super cleansing as well. I have a huge bag of lavender Epsom salts at home, oh, so good. You can also enchant bath bombs!

[Knot magic] is awesome and secret-ish. Weave and braid strings together with colors matching your intent, infusing your energies into it as you do so, and boom - wearable magic. You can give them to friends and family too, and add things like beads and charms to boost imagery and intent.

Pressing flower petals and storing them for later is pretty mundane in appearance, and can also be labelled as a “they smell nice” thing.

Crystals can be for aesthetic, because they look nice - same with any sort of rocks you find outside that you may want to use in magic. No one necessarily has to know or suspect that they are used in magic.

If you want to do more divination… A deck of regular playing cards can be used to do readings with - it’s called [cartomancy]. You can [make your own pendulum]. You can try [shufflemancy] or [stichomancy] too. Computer or phone screens that are shut off can be used as scrying / black mirrors.

You can practice outside, when the weather is nice, and if you happen to have any ideal locations nearby. (There’s a few forests within a half hour’s walk in my city, for example.)

If you wear makeup, you can turn your daily “getting ready” ritual into setting up glamours on yourself. Some posts on [makeup magic] and [cosmetics and glamour].

What is Beltane?

Beltane is celebrated on May 1st although some people choose to celebrate it from April 30th to May 1st. Beltane is a day for fun, light-hearted celebration, love, and it is often represented by maypole dancing and performing fire rituals to honor the Mother Goddess and Sun God. The days are getting longer and all life is bursting with potent fertility and sexuality on earth is at its peak.  Beltane celebrations are filled with feasts and sun magick, the name Beltane means “fire of Bel”. Beltane is a time to watch what you’ve been manifesting and working so hard towards come to life before your eyes. Celebrate, laugh, love, drink, eat and have a good time!

Ways to Celebrate

Play music that gets you feeling happy and excited. Beltane is a celebration of abundance and high energy, so play music that raises your energy

Prepare something in the kitchen. Make a food that reminds you of the coming summer months, share it with whoever you live with if you can/want to

Get crafty! You could draw, paint, write or even just work on a project for yourself. It could really be anything, as long as you’re creating it.

Light some candles or incense! Lighting fires on Beltane is tradition. So however you can safely have a fire lit nearby, have it burning while you do any of the other activities listed above.

Like maybe you thought coming to a witch you’d get some neat spell or some shit, but a big part of being a (good) witch is also looking at what is in front of you and ruling out some basic things first, and a lot of the things people describe to me when it comes to ghost hauntings also sound a helluva lot like carbon monoxide poisoning.
