Hey if you don't mind me asking, I'm curious about your thoughts on unhinged Asuka. I don't remember noticing that vibe from her when watching GX, but I definitely could've been missing something!
Asuka's unhinged moments are pretty few in number but they will not leave my head at all, and they form the foundation of how I characterise and analyse Asuka as well
so here they are, in mostly chronological order, some of my favourite Asuka Unhinged Moments™
the episode we get introduced to Asuka is also the episode where she ties up Bluie like a hostage and offers him in exchange for a duel with Judai, all while Bluie did not even do anything wrong
Asuka could have asked Judai for a duel like a normal person would, but she saw the opportunity to do crime and did it for the love of the game
Asuka Smuggling Judai Inside A Boat (ep 33)
Judai has to duel Carmula but he not allowed to leave the infirmary because he got admitted?
no problem! Asuka will just smuggle Judai to the mysterious castle in a boat!!
Asuka Placing Her Spirit Key As An Ante So That She Can Get Her Scarf Back (ep 43)
she was ready to put the Spirit Key as a lure to duel Mitsuo because that guy stole her scarf which was a gift from her mom and she wants it back
we love a duelist who keeps grudges and bides her time for revenge
Asuka Moving To The Red Dorm (ep 56)
this decison was made right after Acting Headmaster Chronos established an idol-promotion course and told Asuka to be a core paricipant in it
Asuka wants none of that and her way of ensuring that she does not have to deal with any of that is to leave the Blue Dorm and go to the dorm that the teachers are trying to demolish instead
Asuka Making Bluie And Benkei Duel To Determine Who Loves Judai The Most (ep 64)
she would rather see them duel to the death than to watch Love Island: Duel Academia and she is so valid for that
Asuka Threatening Judai To Duel With The Ultimatium Of Being Called A Stalker If He Refuses (ep 81)
the best part is that it worked
and Judai's genuine fear being the cherry on top of this whole interaction
Asuka Making Herself The Guardian Of The Key Completly Unprompted For No Disernable Reason (ep 93)
and she did that while being under Cult Leader's complete control
Cult Leader: bring me the key
Asuka to Judai: and i'm gonna keep that key if i win
Asuka Recalling Being Trapped And Almost Drowning To Death And Being Midly Unconvinced About It (ep 116)
Asuka treating this as nothing more than a mild inconvience will never not bowl me over
she is such an icon for this
Asuka Connecting The Egg-Bread Thief To An Abandoned Dorm Of Missing Students (ep 17)
to her credit, the stolen egg bread was connecting to a missing student
but still a weird leap to logic to make
Asuka [With Ryo and Everyone Else] Wanting To See The Deck Early And Being Unable To Do So Decided To Watch Judai and Kagurazaka Duel Instead (ep 19)
they found that the stolen deck was being used in a duel and did not nothing to stop it because everyone in this academy cares about dueling first and everything else never
most of the moments don't seem very unhinged at first but the more you think about it, the more you realise that Asuka's way off dealing with everything is going from zero to a hundred in a milisecond
she has no chill at all and i love her so much
