That  is,  until  I  noticed  you  through  yours.

The  first  time,  you  were  with  someone  else.  You  had  them  pressed  against  the  glass,  and  I  was  shocked.  So  much  so  that  I  couldn’t  look  away.  I  wrote  you  off  as  a  disgusting  playboy,  then  dreamt  of  you  that  night.

The  next  time,  you  were  pacing  back  and  forth,  phone  pressed  firmly  to  your  ear.  The  hand  gestures  made  it  clear  you  were  angry.  I  wondered  what  about. 

We  locked  eyes  once.  You  were  staring  at  the  skyline,  in  a  daze.  I  didn’t  mean  to  notice,  but  you  caught  me.

From  that  moment  forward,  we  had  an  understanding.  You’d  watch  me,  I’d  watch  you.  We’d  be  witnesses  to  each  other’s  lives,  and  it  wouldn’t  be  complicated.  I  could  think  of  you  however  I  wanted,  and  you’d  never  have  the  opportunity  to  disappoint  me.  It  was  the  perfect  arrangement.  A  silent  vow  we’d  both  agreed  to  keep.
