hello! my name is liam! i’m a disabled trans dude in college who regularly uses a wheelchair.

lately i’ve been struggling with mobility, even with a manual wheelchair, and i’m hoping to invest in a mobility assistance service dog so i can finally be able to manage my chronic pain again. normally, i’m unable to use my wheelchair without the help and aid of friends but their worlds do not revolve around me so i cannot get the help i need. i either can’t leave my apartment or i have to depend on pain medication to be able to somewhat help me walk. both of these situations are not ideal and a mobility service dog is my best option.

“I am a mostly financially independent, disabled college sophomore getting a Shiloh Shepherd puppy to train as a Mobility and Psychiatric Service Dog. I am supposed to be in a manual wheelchair full time. However, due to lack of aid around me as well as worsening chronic pain, I have found myself walking through the pain with a reliance on pain killers. A mobility dog would lessen my pain and also allow me to utilize my chair more often as I need.

"These funds would go towards the medical bills in the first year of having the dog, as well as food, supplies, gear, etc. I'm going to be getting the puppy within the next few months, and aim to raise the money for him as soon as possible. The base cost will also be covered in this, and the breed we are looking at is labs for their size and temperament which work perfectly for mobility service dog work.

"Cost wise, here's what we've looked at:

Puppy- $800-1500

Vet through Petsmart- $60 a month, $720 1 year

Food for 1 year- $500

Crate, training equipment/ treats, toys- $300

Emergency- $680 (with $800 pup)

"Once I have the dog, it will be easier for me to be able to work and find a job because I will have the equipment I need. Throughout the first year I will also do what I can to make money for other aspects of raising the dog, but for now this is the money to help me start on the first year.
