From her spot under the wisteria tree, she stared at the man bathing in the glow of the full moon. His golden hair seem to shine brighter as it dances in the breeze. Dressed in a white low-neck shirt and simple jeans, he still manages to look eternal without the white robes that was mandatory as part of the rules and regulations to differentiate him from wondering lost souls and to announce his rank. However, he throws the regulations out the window, figuratively, and wears what he wants today. No one will dare doubt his rank with the silver bands around his wrists and the aqua-blue colored Five Diamond Star pendant resting on his chest. If anyone dares to say anything to him, she’ll rip their heads off, literally.
His head tilt upwards, he starts at the moon, admiring the beauty that can only be seen in the darkness. He can hear her song, telling him stories of life and death, of changes, or love and passion, of sacrifice, of friendships, of emotions, and of the heart. He listens and smiles, his eyes full of love for her beauty. Despite all her craters and flaws, she is a captivating being and he is entranced. Some people like the sun and the light and warm she brings them, but not him. He loves the moon, loves the way she waxes and wanes, sometimes warm, sometimes cold. He loves how she can seemingly disappear for a while before returning and enveloping him in her warmth and love. He knows that no matter what happens, no matter what he does or doesn’t do, or how the world changes, or how it burns, the moon will always be there. She will always be there in the sky, hidden in the shadows, but never gone. He loves how she doesn’t always show herself, but is always by his side. He loves her, and she loves him. She gave him life, passion, love, comfort, peace, and most importantly, a meaning to continue. His body is gone, but that doesn’t mean his life has ended. He’s still here, breathing, living, and doing what his head tells him to do. The moon is his promise, his audience, his confident, his friend and soulmate, his very being. The moon IS him. When he looks up at the sky, it isn’t the moon he sees, but the reflection of the moon, a reflection of him, of the aqua-blue orbs he uses to observe and guide the world with. For he is Kim Jonghyun, the Guardian of the Moon.
