Saw this just now and thought I’d share here :)
This comes from the book, The New Aradia: A Witch’s Handbook to Magical Resistance, edited by Laura Tempest Zakroff.
I cleaned up a scan of the sigil to use as [my Facebook] cover photo back in June. Glad to see others find my cleaned up version useful, but I also wanted to make sure credit to the origin doesn’t get lost 😄
Halloween decorations are a poor witches best friend
Reblog if this sight on your blog makes you smile and you would like your followers to talk to you more.
I once got an ask about my opinion on doorknobs (and of you’re reading this, Anony, you’re awesome) and I loved it. There’s no dumb asks
I always enjoy seeing asks being sent to me, I wouldn’t want people to be shy to ask me anything or even if it’s kind messages I’ve been getting. <3 Can be random even. Makes me smile. uwu
Witchcraft 101: Psychic Phenomena
What is Psychic Phenomena?
The internet describes it as: “phenomena that appear to contradict physical laws and suggest the possibility of causation by mental processes.” or “phenomena lying outside the sphere of physical science or knowledge.”
So, in layman’s terms, psychic phenomena are abilities and/or practises that do not comply with known laws of physics and deal with the metaphysical.
*Metaphysics is “a branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.”
✧ Automatic Writing:
Automatic Writing - also know as “psychography” - is, quite simply, the ability to write without conscious thought. This means that the writings done during an episode or session of Automatic Writing come from a spiritual source. Oftentimes, the writings will not make a lot of sense - Automatic Writing is a form of divination and thus, the writing must be be interpreted by the practitioner if the meaning is not immediately clear. // [How to Practise Automatic Writing]
✧ Clairaudience:
Clairaudience (clear hearing) is the ability to hear things that are not of this plane. For example, you may be able to hear the voices of spirits and entities that do not exist within the physical human world, or hear the voices of those who have passed. It is said that one can grow and develop this psychic ability over time with practise.
✧ Claircognizance:
Claircognizance (clear knowing) is best described as the ability to know something intrinsically. This means that you have knowledge of something, someone or a subject that you were not taught and cannot provide a background to. This is often referred to as a higher form of intuition and if you are claircognizant, you know that what you know is true beyond doubt.
✧ Clairgustance:
This psychic phenomena, is probably one of the stranger ones. Literally meaning “clear taste”, clairgustance is the ability to taste something without putting it in your mouth. This form of extra-sensory perception (ESP) is uncommon and those who possess this ability say that they can taste the essence of something from an astral or spiritual plane.
✧ Clairolfaction:
This is a form of ESP that enables the person with this talent to receive information by means of - for lack of a better description - psychic smelling. Yes, you did read that correctly. Much like the aforementioned Clairgustance, Clairolfaction is the ability to smell something - or as practitioners may say the essence of something - without a physical source for the stench to emanate from.
Clairolfaction is also known as “clairscent”.
✧ Clairsentience:
Clairsentience (meaning “clear feeling”), is the ability to acquire knowledge by touch. The gifted individual may gain knowledge of emotion, memory, location and more by touching a person or an object that belongs/belonged to a person. Sometimes, a Clairsentient person may feel the presence of spirits too.
✧ Clairvoyance:
Clairvoyance (meaning “clear seeing”) is the ability to receive information about future events, or spiritual knowledge visually.
✧ Divination:
Divination is the umbrella term used for methods of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by spiritual means, such as using pendulums, dowsing, reading tarot cards, palmistry, and more.
✧ Energy Medicine:
Energy medicine, also known as spiritual healing, is a branch of alternative medicine based on the belief that healers can channel healing energy into a patient/client and effect positive results by doing so.
Reiki is a well known form of this.
✧ Mediumship & Channelling:
There are different types of mediumship and channelling (such as Ouija), but the best way to cover all the types with one small explanation, is to say that mediumship is the practise of communing with the deceased.
✧ Precognition & Premonition:
Precognition and premonition simply means that the person with this gift is able to have foreknowledge of an event/events. A common form of gaining this knowledge, is through clairvoyance and prophetic vision.
✧ Psychometry:
Psychometry is the ability to gain knowledge of a person - whether that is their location, personal knowledge, or otherwise - through contact with an inanimate object that is associated with them. Commonly the objects used in psychometry will belong to the person you are trying to gain knowledge about, and may be items of clothing or jewellery.
✧ Retrocognition:
This is also known as “postcognition” and is the opposite of precognition. This ability is described as being able to gain knowledge of an event that has already passed that cannot be learned through regular means and must be learned through extra-sensory perception.
✧ Second Sight:
Often, this term is used interchangeably with “clairvoyance” as it means that the person with this gift is able to predict and perceive future events before they occur through visual means. These visions are often symbolic in nature.
✧ Scrying:
A form of divination, Scrying is the practise of foretelling the future or gaining foresight using a reflective surface, such as a mirror, crystal ball or water. // Scrying [Witchcraft 101]
✧ Telepathy:
Telepathy is the ability to communicate with another person through extra-sensory means - by this, we mean that the communication is done by means outside the known senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing).

More than 7000 people have been detained. They started to release them slowly and all the prisoners talk about how they were tortured, beaten, bones and spines broken, they couldn’t get any food for days and so on. People don’t receive any medical treatment there and are dying in the hospitals after they are released from detainment. And of course, the government denies everything.

What's the thoughts on terms like "white witchcraft" or "white magic"? Because I feel very uncomfortable with those terms, especially since white witchcraft encourages the idea that white = good (and likewise that black magic equates to bad or evil). But as a white person, I don't want to be overstepping and saying it's wrong or that we shouldn't be using it, if it's not actually a problem?
I take umbrage with both terms, personally. Both for the racist tones and simply for the inane categorization of magic into "good" or "bad". It feels incredibly twee and juvenile.
This has been an issue/argument for forever, mind you.
Magic just is. Witchcraft just is. It's a tool, and, like any tool, people will do good and bad with it.
Also when they draw this arbitrary line of "white/ black = good/ evil" pay attention to what the general population is assigning each of those to. It's common that good/ white magic will reference any European traditions or neo-pagan practices mostly inhabited by white people. Often bad/ black magic is used in reference to indigenous practices, hoodoo, voodoo, santeria, etc.
When they coined these terms, they were not subtle about which ones they wanted to consider "good" and which ones they considered "bad".
There was a common trend briefly in media as well, around the early 2000s where they attempted to designate a difference between "wiccan and witch" that called wiccans good and witches bad. (Witches in this context were pretty much anyone that deviated from the constant "love and light" concept).
Eventually the word witch became more universal, but the terms for white and black magic still lingered. Even now that large groups are against its usage at all, there's still a constant influx of books touting it as truth.
And aside from racist connotations, as mentioned, magic is just not that simple.
A blessing can be in bad faith if it's done without consent, or directly against someones wishes or religious beliefs.
A hex can be a form of righteous justice to protect those who are most vulnerable.
There's nothing inherently good or bad. It's all in your intentions and how you use it. Shaving it down to ANY simple dichotomy is really only going to do you a disservice in developing your craft.
I have a bonus podcast episode all about the literal racist roots of how we use the terms white and black magic and the roots of Magick (with the K)
the men of the age of enlightenment were literally working to try and prove that the colours white and black had inherently ‘good/orderly’ and ‘bad/irrational’ natures in order to justify white supremacy.

Just a gentle reminder for tumblr users with anxiety, panic disorders or who get nervous quickly:
- Chain mail, “reblog this or..” posts etc. don’t work. They’re not real. Nothing bad will happen if you don’t forward that mail or reblog that post.
- “If you don’t reblog this, you’re a bad person” is a lie. You’re not a bad person for not clicking a button.
- You are allowed to unfollow blogs that post triggering contents.
- You’re not weak or a crybaby for avoiding things that are triggering. Far from it, you’re taking care of yourself. That’s amazing!
This is why when you ask a witch with an established practice "how do you become a witch?" 99.99% of the time, the answer is RESEARCH.
Because then you don't end up with people trying to hex the moon and deliberately provoke major deities. (Other people have gone into detail about how ridiculous it is to even attempt that as a beginner witch, I may make a post on that as well)
I'm not sharing a link to the original video or the twitter account of this individual, go find it if you really want to see it, but it just made me mad.
Witchcraft is an individual practice, but there are a few universally understood "rules" (for lack of a better word) and this person just makes the entire witch community look bad.
If you're new to this path, please take your time learning. It's okay, it's really for the best.
The term “witch” is gender neutral, pass it on

The sabbats are holidays celebrated throughout the year on solstices, equinoxes, and the midpoints between them. These sabbats form the Wheel of the year.
There is a controversy surrounding the dates of these holidays, as people celebrate them all over the earth, not only in the northen hemisphere but in the southern too.
One viewpoint is that the Sabbats should be celebrated as they were originally created to be… in other words, Samhain is October 31st, regardless of where you live. In the Southern Hemisphere, even though you are just gearing up to summer on October 31st, this perspective says that you celebrate the cleansing and releasing, the honouring of the dead just as you would if you lived in the Northern Hemisphere. The other viewpoint (the one I personally agree with) is that you should celebrate when you feel like the season corresponds with the holiday, in other words, your craft, your rules. So if you live in the southern hemisphere, you have the choice.
I’ll be writing the dates for each holiday starting with the northen hemisphere and then the dates that many people celebrate them in the southern hemisphere

A Spell to Protect BLM Protesters
Although magic is no substitute for genuine activism, not all of us are able to attend protests, donate money, or even be outspoken about our support. This spell allows you to magically lend your energy to the cause.
What you will need:
a sheet of white, red, or black paper
a black pen
a protection oil, a protective essential oil like myrrh or rosemary, or salt water
Performing the Ritual:
Write the words “Black Lives Matter” in the center of your paper. As you do so, visualize these words forming a connection between yourself and the protesters who are a part of the movement.
Draw a circle around the words, moving your pen counterclockwise.
Say: “I cast protection around those protesting on behalf of the Black Lives Matter movement. They are under my protection from anyone who would do them harm or oppose their goals.”
If you work with sigils, runes, or some other kind of magical symbols, feel free to incorporate symbols for protection and power into your circle.
Take a little bit of your oil or salt water on the tip of your index finger and use it to anoint the circle at each of the four cardinal points (north, east, south, west), starting at the top of the circle and moving clockwise.
Say, “May this [oil/salt] protect those protesting on behalf of the Black Lives Matter movement. May it shield them from harm and surround them with a wall of protection and light.”
Focus your energy on the paper, and visualize the protests going on around the country right now. Focus on sending your energy to those protests to protect and support those participating.
I’m a Reiki practitioner, so when I did this spell I also incorporated a distance Reiki session to send Reiki energy to those protesting, and to add an extra layer of protection. If you practice any kind of energy work, that would be a beautiful thing to incorporate into this spell.
If you worship any deities associated with justice, feel free to call on them during this ritual.
Finally, if you have an altar, fold up your paper and place it on your altar once you finish the spell. Keeping the paper in a sacred space will allow it to keep receiving energy, and you can come back to pray for/send energy to protesters again in the future.
What to do next
If you can, donate to organizations that contribute to the cause, like Black Visions Collective, Reclaim the Block, or a similar local organization.
If you can’t donate, raise awareness on social media and in real life. (For my fellow white folks: try to focus on sharing stories from POC, rather than talking over them. Yes, we should use our privilege to raise awareness, but we should do that in a way that keeps the focus on those who are directly affected by the issue.)
IF YOU ARE ATTENDING A PROTEST, be smart and be safe. Keep your face covered, don’t talk to reporters, don’t take pictures (especially if you use iCloud!), stay the fuck away from anyone with a camera, and don’t post about it on social media.
