One of the reasons actually that I applied for a mod position was because I felt disappointed with how America-centric SJWs were. Iād gotten shouted down a lot when I tried to politely point out differences. Iām half-Puerto-Rican, but am often read as Half-White in Asia (Hispanics arenāt a big immigrant group). It doesnāt need to be repeated that you can be racist towards whites, but since there are still people who seem to think otherwise, Iāll talk about a bit about whites in Asia, where they are a minority.
Prejudice against whites is a real thing in Asia. There areĀ many stereotypes againstĀ whites. For starters, white girls (and sometimes guys) are slutty and unfaithful: I can think of so many movies and books from Asia where whites are portrayed as terrible partners, there to have a little fun during their temporary stay in Asia only to drop the guy/girl as they waltz off to the airport. They arenāt understanding and canāt be good for their significant other in the way an Asian could. In music videos, the role of the slutty temptress, the ādevilā, is almost always portrayed by a white woman, particularly of the blonde, blue-eyed variety. It has nothing to do, as SJWs claim, with whites being seen as more attractive. It has everything to do with seeing them as skankier and a bad thing to ever date them.
Whites are rude and loud. I constantly hear comments about whites being impolite, speaking too loudly in public places, talking to people too informally, etc. Itās true that cultures are different: I remember I once had anĀ AmericanĀ exchange student do a home-stay with me, and to my complete horror, she referred to my parents by their first names. But to generalise and stereotype is wrong, and it leads to dismissing and mocking people because we can only view them as not being good enough for our societies. After all, arenāt we supposed to be fighting for people to be judged on their own merits? Ā
Whites are less intelligent and unprofessional. This stereotype revolves around the idea that whites are too ārelaxedā, and donāt get things done properly - Iāve often heard students complain about their white teachers being disorganized, messy and totally unprofessional, emphasizing that it is the fact that they are white that makes them so bad. The less intelligent part links to the idea of the ādumb white Americanā, no doubt influenced by the media and celebrity gossip.Ā Whites also eat too much and are gluttonous. I donāt need to repeat why itās wrong to stereotype this way.
And finally, and this may come as a huge shocker: All whites look the same. Thatās right, Asians have the exact same stereotype. In a way, itās not surprising: Whites are a minority so people arenāt used to seeing their faces and hence are not able to pick out variation in features. Itās still obviously wrong to insist that a another ethnic group is made up of clones.
Okay, you may say, but so what? These arenāt harmful, right? Shifting aside the whole suffering contest vibe that response gives off, these are harmful. They are harmful because it is wrong to generalise an entire group of people, and it is wrong to be prejudiced against them, andĀ it is wrong to demand that they integrate or get out of our country. Iāll relate a real event in Singapore that happened this year: an elderly white man on the train started complaining loudly about a Singaporean passenger wearing a T-shirt with vulgarities on it. Yes, it was wrong of him, but do you know what the response was? Another passenger stepped in and told him off, as was proper and measured, but then people began to heckle and jeer him off the train, yelling at him to get out of the country and throw around horrible comments about whites and foreigners. Is that really justice?
Moreover, it is wrong to state that the growing numbers of permanent residents/citizens that are white, and the growing numbers of half-white-half-Asian children are not ātrueā citizens. I canāt count the number of times Iāve been told that Iām ātrying to be Singaporeanā when I use slang, or asked when Iām going to āgo back to the USā, orĀ been called a āforeign studentā. All because Iām read as white, and all because of something IĀ was born with. Ā
And itās not just me: there are two boys in my year who are both actually half-White. One has an American parent, the other a Scottish one. They are both constantly referred to as American and Scottish despite the fact that both are citizens and have lived in the country since they were children, and despite the fact that theyāve stated that they donāt like it. There are plenty more.
So please, stop assuming that the whole world is like the US. Whites are not a majority everywhere. Whites can be discriminated against. Your argument that racism against whites didnāt hold water before, and it holds even less now. Racism is racism, and you donāt get a free pass just because youāre non-white.
