the older i get the more i realise how oppressed Scots still are by others. We are constantly seen as more deprived, and shamed for it. We don’t get help, we just get spat on like we are subhuman. They tell us ‘speak proper’ when we use words of Scottish Gaelic origin, or even just a heavy accent! we should never believe it’s less ‘classy’ to speak the way our ancestors dreamed of. The English had tried to oppress us and silence us into obedience for years, we don’t even know our own language because they took it away from us, they shamed us. The Scots have never been obedient for a bunch of colonisers, and we never will be. I was brainwashed into disliking my country because people made it out to be ugly, poor, and unfortunate. We are the opposite. We have the most beautiful, earthy, quiet country on Earth. Never be ashamed of your heritage when Scots before us fought for our country. Be bold, be patriotic, learn your language. Don’t let anyone convince you Scotland is just another one of England’s dogs. We are brilliant, we are an important piece of history! Make Scotland great again, make Scots proud again. Never play the role of a tory, because you might just lose who you truly are - and that’s a Scottish soldier. A flame that never went out. You’d never see the truly beautiful country we are. You’d never fight for the deserved independence.
