X-Men: House of X // Power of X

RIP.

I’m sure that dude had lived a long, fulfilling life before his brutal murder.

But then, I’m pretty sure he’d still prefer to not be murdered.

Charles and Xavier don’t seem to mind! It does make sense not to piss off the man who just had someone killed right in front of you on a whim. I think they might be a little more successful than I was thinking if they’re going here to do a trade, though I don’t for the life of me know what they’re going to offer the man for it. Maybe more butlers?

Oh, he CRAZY crazy.

He would look good with a cape, though.

Everyone would look good with a cape, but that’s besides the point.

I feel like this is almost guaranteed to end in these two running away from this island as Mister Sinister tries to kill them. I certainly wouldn’t bet against this. The alternative is that Xavier makes an impassioned speech and inspires him to help their cause, but I’d say that probably also ends in Sinister trying to kill them.

The only other point against this is definitely the point where they’d probably get help against the final threat of the comic, so it may be that he decides to help them now and then betrays them later.

Okay, I take it back, this dude kinda sucks.

Not to mention he’s flat-out wrong. Sure, Magneto looks cool, but Xavier is in a FLOATING CHAIR! I get that sure, you probably have cool super powers and live in a world of plenty and have no concept of disability or whatever. But you gotta respect the man who goes into Crystal Rock Land in a floating chair, with nothing but a suit and an all-powerful magnet god next to him.

Oh, rad, we’re back to the Year X^0 format! Love that for us. I wanna see Rasputin again, y’all!

Also, I love this door guard fellow. Openly rude right off the bat, openly critical of the supers because he clearly cannot give a damn who they are, fed up with his job but still doing it? I just love this kinda thing in comics so much, and it’s such a delight to see a random cranky dude in a work environment.

Mhmm, it do be like that, Professor.

I barely know who any of these characters are.

But the symbolism... seems clear? Pale, whited-out eyes. An array of heads over the background, with Xavier in the front, reaching out. It’s either showing the cloning beginnings, with each head being a mutant recreated by Krakoa, or Xavier’s control over the mutants. I’m pretty sure it’s the latter, considering that I don’t think that Xavier in this comic is the type of person who’d take over everyone and anyone like that.

Alright, let’s go! It’s time for a white page for so long after I dropped this for a stretch. I wonder what we’re going to see? More information on the cloning system Xavier’s going to use? More information on how Krakoa works? Oooh, maybe we’ll get to see more of Moira! I love her character through this story, that’d be awesome!

Ah, the inciting incident! That makes a considerable amount of sense. So this is where Charles draws the clones from. Does that imply the part at the beginning was a flash-forward? I think that’d be interesting enough.

...I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t laugh.

I’m sure this is a very tragic moment, and Jean is experiencing a lot of pain in her demise, though plausibly better than dying from starvation in the void of space.

...but these drones are ridiculous.

What even IS the right-side there doing? Does he want to eat Jean? Why did he just shove his head through? HOW did he just shove his head through? Did he cut a hole for his face to intimidate Jean?

If I weren’t already sure that this isn’t going to have any real long-term effects, this would clinch it. No way is Scott going to die permanently here.

Look, I’ve never been wrong once in my life, so you can trust me when I say that. I have never once made a false assumption about a comic based on personal writing style.

Poor Scott Summers.

Taken away from the time of his life. Trapped inside a tiny escape pod, with no food or water, traveling several months back to Earth with another person. Inside a pod likely designed to take one person.

...maybe it’s for the best that he got lasered in the back.

So ended Wolverine, last and greatest of the X-men. His body turned hard as rock, and he floated through space for the rest of time, never to return. He wished for death, but there was nothing out there to kill him. The spark of thought within him went dim... and then, silent.

Just kidding, of course. :p

Wolverine probably isn’t going to be doing much freezing while he spends eternity in the blazing heat of the sun.

At any rate, I’m fairly certain that this is the Mother Mold’s death scene. Poor child. Born and then falling into the sun. Congratulations to Wolverine on his world-record AI-birth-insanity-rebellion speedrun, though, this has got to be a monumental occasion in the community.

So. We’re what, around four or so pages from the end of the comic? Less if there’s a couple white pages first. I think this is a good climax, for it, with the rest of this comic being an examination of the effect of their expedition here.

I love this. I love poor Nightcrawler INSTANTLY turning to dust. I forgot that they were kinda right there, outside of a sun. And I can’t be entirely sure -- physics isn’t my field of study -- but I don’t think that Nightcrawler was set on fire there. i think that he’s literally boiling away.

Rough.

Obviously, i don’t think that the Mother is going to be put into action. But it’s a very good sign that she’s going directly into “superior to both humans and mutants” territory. Very cool and good that there was zero downtime for this A.I. uprising.

...Wolvie probably would go to hell, wouldn’t he.

...can Wolverine die in space? He’s regenerative, but vacuum doesn’t just kill in ways you could regenerate from. Does he die from starvation? From lack of oxygen? I feel like he doesn’t, otherwise it’d have been way too easy to kill him over the years.

Hello! It is not technically end of exams for me, but it IS the end of the massive rush to get things down and be productive. So that means I’m going to try and pick this up consistently again! With that said...

So Wolverine and Nightcrawler are our candidates for death. I really, really don’t think that Wolverine is going to die here. Maybe he’ll get injured. I also don’t think that Nightcrawler is going to get fatally wounded, either. It doesn’t strike me as the right sort of time for either of their fates to be permanently sealed. I feel like they’re going to get a stroke of luck -- I’d love for it to be Rasputin, but I wouldn’t bet on the matter.

Oooohh, ~dramatic~.

So this means a few things.

    - It means that the international community is probably going to step up its response against mutants. If they didn’t trust mutants beforehand, they certainly won’t trust them now that they’ve proven to use “extreme” measures to defend themselves against the threat of attack. Honestly, everything they’ve done here so far has been justified. But... humans can be terrible.

   - Scott doing whatever it takes (always a good sign) probably means the station is going kaput. If he just takes his visor off and does a lil twirl, he destroys everything around him and the station experiences a rapid de-exposure to atmospheric pressure. Granted, he’d probably also die (or get greviously injured), but I wouldn’t be surprised if the comic had one more of those in stock.

Well, I’d place very good odds on it not being entirely sane -- or ending up activated, actually. If it does get activated, it’d likely be destroyed shortly after or too lackluster compared to what it was said to be earlier.
