"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, and species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.

Investigation on his nature
I do love how the reader gets a WILDLY different first impression of Cordelia's career based on what books you start with. If you start with Shards of Honor, you get her as a narrator and she portrays her role in the Astronomical Survey so matter-of-factly that you go okay. this is just a job people have in this sci-fi universe, exploring unknown planets. clearly it has its dangers even when hostile Barrayarans aren't involved, and she's in charge of people and obviously good at it, but she doesn't really act like it's anything remarkable.
If you start with a book that has literally any other character's perspective when talking about Cordelia's career, you get the additional context that the Astronomical Survey is insanely dangerous, involves jumping blind through wormholes, has a highly prestigious reputation, and being a genius daredevil is pretty much a requirement to get in.
no wonder Miles describes her fearlessness as "terrifying"
theyâre doing very important mission research and whatnot

Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a âsexyâ (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itâs kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyâre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their âopponentsââ accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenâs education charity via each sideâs portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the âfreedom of expressionâ side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
From now on this is how all petty fandom disputes should be settled.

funny thing about anxiety is sometimes it kind of breaks your sense of danger. like i am known for repeatedly putting myself in situations that make my friends go "bro you couldve died. werent you scared?" and the answer is đ yjeah. i did it scared. i do everything scared. i didnt know that was the actual important kind of scary because i usually have to ignore my fears to function in society. it will happen again. watch out.
Murderbot says much the same thing about its broken threat assessment module :)

Yeah, she couldâve done this in her standard Sailor Moon form. Super form is overkill, really.
Sailor Moon is stronger than Goku. I donât make the rules. Fight me about it.
What!? đ
Iâm on a still active forum, with a solid vs debate scene. Sailor Moon vs. the God-Emperor of Mankind from 40k is one of the most treasured threads there, as Sailor Moon trashed the guy.
19 pages straight of debate over Sailor Moon vs. God-Emperor of Mankind, in which every time a 40k fan desperately brings up a new point, it immediately gets negated by another one of Sailor Moonâs powers
A trans girl I know from turkeye just posted "debunking zionist propaganda" and the "propaganda" it was debunking was Being Jewish with Jonah Platt. I'm so sad. I don't want to unfollow all my friends. My face feels hot. I don't know how to react. Do I unfollow her? I love Jonah Platt. How are we ever going to fight back if our best speakers are smeared as zionist propaganda
.
âHow are we ever going to fight back if our best speakers are smeared as zionist propagandaâ this is the point, sadly. itâs the point of utilizing the word as a slur, itâs the point of degrading and dismissing any Jew that can be targeted with it. itâs a silencing and delegitimization tactic. if our best and most effective and educated speakers can be instantly dismissed with shorthand for evil, genocidal, fascist, inhuman (which is what the usage of âZionistâ has become), then of course thereâs no point in listening to them. in fact, paying them any attention at all, unless itâs to send them hate, is tantamount to a thought crime, and punishable by ostracization from the in-group as a traitor to the cause. itâs a very easy, very effective way to make sure Jewish creators will not be heard or taken seriously (unless, of course, theyâre the ones who can be tokenized). making sure that itâs widely accepted that anyone who can be called (((Zionist))) is discredited is the best way to make that a reality, and itâs why weâre seeing it happen across every spectrum - the arts, academia, publishing, medicine, politics, and so on. we are not supposed to be able to fight back.
One thing that's so underrated about PHM is Eva Stratt's appearance. She doesn't have the lipstick, sleek bun, pencil skirt (or even pantsuit), and heels look that is so often the uniform of female characters in similar roles. She doesn't wear makeup (as much as any other actor). She wears her hair down or in the simplest ten-second buns. She wears softs, easy to move in clothes that are weather appropriate. Why would she spend extra time making her physical body less efficient?
I wanted to add to this that in the movie especially, getting her played by a middle aged woman with visible signs of aging was a badass move. The only person who can save humanity is a middle aged woman in a turtleneck with tired eyes.

i don't think "being trans has a meaningful impact on your position under patriarchy, and when people talk about systemic misogyny and androcentrism and just say "men" instead of "cis men," it ignores that trans men have quite literally never been included in any of this" should be this goddamn fucking controversial tbh. but now i've got people crawling out the woodwork to um actually me about how "this study shows that trans men in the US full time work earn 10% more than trans women in full time work and also v-coding exists and also afab housing so therefore trans men as a class have male privilege and benefit from patriarchy"
#I genuinely wonder where they got lost if they think âaccess to AFAB housingâ is *male* privilege tbh#yknow. group of people who by are by definition not granted the sex marker of male on their birth certificate#and if our birth certificate and legal sex ID was changed to Male then#maybe. and hear me out here. maybe that would make it difficult. to get into. AFAB housing. whoa.#maybe this is why the term AFAB privilege began to circulate lmao#bc thereâs no way of arguing this as male privilege that doesnât come across as some form of absurdist satire
oh its like talking to a fucking funhouse mirror with these people tbh. its the same with that one guy who was like "checkmate MRA, women in the 19th century were legally property and couldn't wear pants!!" when that. is literally an example of how trans men were also directly systemically affected by misogyny.
these people never stop for one single second to think of trans men who never get to transition. they never think about the countless trans men throughout history who have lived and died as women. who have been subject to child marriage and clitorectomies and been treated as legal property. they don't think about trans men in countries right now who go through all of those things, who legally cannot be outside without a male guardian because they are legally female, who cannot even get their own passport because they are legally female. its so fucking frustrating.
radical feminism has its hooks so deep in some parts of the trans community, and frankly a lot of people have internalized trans separatist talking points. even if they don't realize it they don't seem to think of trans people as a coherent group. all trans people's experiences are seen as just a shadow cast by cis menâs privilege and cis womenâs oppression, and our experiences are reducible to cis men and cis women's experiences but slightly different.
and, i have to say this again: this is literally how TERFs think, but in reverse. TERFs also ignore how trans men are worse off than cis women, and how trans women are worse off than cis men, and insist that all trans experiences are reducible to "men are privileged women are oppressed." its literally just a matter of which trans people you cram into which side of the cis binary. this is not good transfeminism and it never ever will be.
from this post:
people will tell you that people seen as men are gender-policed much more harshly than people seen as women and every little deviation towards femininity is noticed and punished, and that's why trans guys have it easier. but you'll also hear people tell you that people seen as men have so much more wiggle room, men can be all kinds of sizes and shapes meanwhile people seen as women have to fit into this tiny little box, and that's why trans guys have it easier.
these are two entirely contradictory lines of logic, but they lead to the same conclusion. because the conclusion is the point. its a backformed theory of gender. people believe, for whatever reason, that "trans guys have it easier" is an objective fact, and then storytell an explanation for why that is that sounds right to them. [...]. its about people just feeling, on a gut level, that trans guys must have it easier, by which they really mean, transmasculine suffering isn't socially visible, and it isn't natural for me to imagine it, therefore it must not exist; yet, trans suffering in general clearly exists, so there must be some reason that transmasculine suffering feels so abstract and immaterial to me and others.
once you start to see this you can't unsee it. people will just say insane bullshit that could easily be used to make the opposite point they are making
here's an example of this in action:
"if someone masculine happens to have something feminine about them, it is dissuaded"
oh so you mean cis men can be feminine and no one cares and that's why trans men have male privilege? but i thought it was the reverse, that cis women can be masculine and no one cares and that's why trans men have male privilege? which is it? which is it? which is it? which is it? which is it? which is it? which is it? which is it? which is it?
