AFS GRANT RECIPIENT

It has been an honor to receive the AFS grant award from @austinfilm for my film Chicle (gum)! The award is the EBW Empowering Female Filmmakers, by Sandra Adair. Facebook page coming soon!

Chicle (gum) follows ill-tempered Kari, who is called to arrive promptly at her aunts house in order to say the “last goodbye” to her dying grandfather. It is there that she reunites with past friend/fling, Choli, who wants to mend their relationship.

This SXSW I tried to get see as many films made by/featuring people of color and women. Though I wasn’t able to see more movies, among my list: Give me Future, Dear White People, Signature Move, The Big Sick, The Light of the Moon, Madre, Pornocracy, I Love Bekka & Lucy, Transfiguration, and As I Walk Through the Valley.

It’s imperative to support films like these. Thanks @sxsw for featuring these films in your line-up. Let’s hope for more! This also means Filmmakers (of color and women), SUBMIT! Also thanks for @latinitas-mag and @IlseGarciaRomero for the wonderful write-up!
