Any time. Really. With all the useless little facts I seem to pick up on a daily basis now, I’ve practically become a walking Seattle guide book. I’m just glad I finally get to put my knowledge to good use. [chuckles] Oh, boy. I’ve revealed myself too soon. Yep, I’m an intern. And you are...?

I’ve heard the other interns mention this place called Joe’s. I personally haven’t had the chance to check it out just yet but I’ve heard rave reviews. It seems to be the place where most of the other doctors go when they’re in need of a little getaway. You should check it out.

Look…we’ve all been where you’re at; being an intern. Just take a deep breath. Don’t try and be the hero or else it will only make things messier. You’re an intern, you’re not supposed to have all the answers just yet. Just listen, do what you’re told and above all ask questions and if you don’t know the answers step back and let the residents and attendings take care of it. You’ll get taught I promise but you have to lower the anxiety or else it’s going to bite you in the ass. I’m Dr. Lennon or Brighton when we’re not working. You’re on my service today. So yes, get the blood work and meet me in OB, room 343 okay?

Yes, Dr. Lennon. Thank you for that. It’s easy to forget sometimes that everyone here started off as an intern like myself. I’ll go and get that blood work for you right now. 

“You better be, just make sure you get some sleep, you need to start looking after yourself.”

“I appreciate your concern, but I am looking after myself. You really don’t have to worry about me. I’m doing just fine.”

We’re not in the military. It’s Dr. Dr. Grey-Shepherd. Make sure you remember it. Now move.

Strong memory? So when you’re down in the pit and Hunt or Paterson is telling you what tests to order for a trauma patient and you have to run and do it in a matter of minutes or it could quite possibly kill your patient, you’re telling me since you don’t have a strong memory you’ll probably forget which tests, labs or scans they told you to get? Dually noted. Thank you for admitting that to your Chief Resident. And no, nothing to do with Radiology. I asked you and politely might I add to pick up Tegan Morris’ blood work before sitting in on her ultrasound with me but I’m thinking now you’d be better suited else where. Who’s your resident?

No, no. That’s not what I meant... I just meant to say that I didn’t quite hear you before. Please, don’t be mistaken. I have a very good memory. This whole place is just very... overwhelming. Now I just sound like I’m making up excuses, but I can assure you that I am not. I can go run and get Tegan Morris’ blood work for you right now. “When did you last get some sleep?”

“Well, I’d be lying if I said I remembered. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve gotten a real good nights sleep. I'm living off naps and countless cups of coffee. The perks of being an intern, I suppose.”
