Hi. c: Is it true WordGirl might have a chance of continuing since it's been taken over by Fremantle Media Animation?
This is a rumor that originated on the WordGirl Wiki (from what I can find). There are no official press releases stating this happened.
Fremantle Media is a producer, yes, but also a large international distributor, especially when it comes to animated content, so it is entirely possible they have had an existing deal to distribute WordGirl to the UK or South America or Southeast Asia for years now and renewed their distribution agreement to air the new episodes abroad. This does not mean they are the new production company, however.Ā
I looked through the WordGirl tag after seeing this question, and per the note about someone writing to WGBH, I used to work for WGBH, and they do not have any affiliation with WordGirl or Soup2Nuts aside from the fact that they are located in the same city. Iām not sure who the person specifically got a hold of at WGBH, but I know that Member & Audience Services (or whoever might be on the end of a publicly posted phone number) would not know details about WordGirl and/or its current production company in any intimate detail.
Scholastic, who owns the rights to WordGirl, runs the WordGirl Facebook page and confirmed in their latest post that WordGirl has ended after 8 seasons.Ā
Then again, perhaps you all are fantastic sleuths and know something before it is public. In my humble opinion, though, this is not true.
