I loooove your art and I've found myself thinking about Vannatir and Deimos a lot, since there are so many details in your art that I don't have the context to understand but that are fascinating nonetheless. Like the fact that Deimos is almost always prideful and defiant, except for the last panel of the comic where Vannatir says "I wish you could stay like this forever"... makes me think there might be magic involved, or something else that broke Deimos's spirit temporarily.
On a related note, has Vannatir ever hurt Deimos? Or is his power over Deimos solely based on his patron status & the fiends under his command?
Thank you so much! I'm also so glad that it's easy for you to see Deimos' baseline through my drawings. :D Since he's indeed a very prideful and defiant person. And very good catch on the contrast where that breaks!
In the story it's currently still a bit of a mystery if magic (like Charm Person) is/was involved in the moments where Deimos breaks. Even for THE night where the warlock pact was made. The GM of our Dungeons and Dragons campaign is the only one who knows for sure if Vannatir used such magic to ensure Deimos would carry out the ritual, or if it really was all Deimos himself.
Personally, I think it really is all Deimos. No magic involved. It's been really interesting to find out through the story-telling of the campaign just how far Deimos is willing to go for Vannatir (and his own safety).
And lastly about hurt: Unfortunately yes, after the warlock pact was made this has happened. Vannatir's influence over Deimos does indeed come from Deimos fearing Vannatir's position as now his warlock patron, and the dangerous fiends under Vannatir's command. But also Deimos' fear of pain.
