redemption | tony & steve
Never in a million years did Steve think that he would be carrying Howard Starkâs son into a helicopter let alone save him from god knows what. In the war, Steve had heard stories about camps where MIA soldiers had disappeared too. Steve didnât really know the extent of it, but he hoped to god that Tony didnât have to go through anything like that. Steve wouldnât let him suffer alone though, heâd make sure heâd be there with Tony. He hoped that he didnât go through anything afterwards. Steve himself was struggling with PTSD, he didnât want to see Tony go through that either. It seemed like he had been through enough already.Â
Steve stayed in the corner while he watched the medical examiners. He didnât want to look like he was prying, but Steve was just keeping an extra protective eye on the man. After what he probably been through Steve didnât want any trouble for him. Though he didnât think anything else would happen to him while he was in the chopper, but Steve had a hard time trusting people lately. Things just werenât the same, and society had changed drastically since the the 1940s. He knew it wasnât healthy to hold on to the past, but sometimes he had a hard time doing so. Things were just so different. Steve shook those thoughts out of his mind and returned his attention to the situation in front of him.
Steve shook his head as the man thanked him. Steve didnât feel like he needed to be thanked. Steve was just doing his job, and even though he had made it personal, he still didnât need to be thanked. His thanks was finding Tony in the desert alive. Steve gave him a look that clearly spelled âAre you serious?â âAre you sure about that? Iâm no doctor but you could probably use some sleep and a decent mean.â Steve was suddenly wondering when the last time the man slept or ate something nutritional. Both of those things werenât going to happen properly until they got back into the states.Â
"Are you trying to say youâre not a fan of your current dressing?" Steve playfully teased. Steve had packed a spare back just in case they found Tony. Steve was always planning ahead, it usually turned out to be a good thing. Steve went the the corner and pulled out a black gym back before handing it over to him. "While Iâm sure thousand of women would love to see you strut off the plane naked, I did bring some extra clothes just in case." he chuckled. "Sorry if itâs not what youâd like, but I had other things on my mind." like trying to find and save him. Steve titled his  head curiously at the other man as he noticed the shiny blue arc reactor coming from Tonyâs chest. Now that was not normal at all, and he was fairly certain that he did not have that before Afghanistan. "Tony." he started, nodding at his chest. "What happened?" he asked in a soft concerned tone, He wasnât pressuring Tony to tell him but he genuinely wanted to know.Â
Tony thought of Pepper, thought of the bots, thought of Obadiah. Yinsen had been wrong about one thing: he didn't have nothing. The thought was bittersweet and almost uplifting in a way; he had to protect all the people closest to him. He had to protect the world now, despite the fact that half of its inhabitants hated him because of the destruction he'd caused. Now was a period of atonement that he'd sure as hell live up to, and if anyone had anything to say about it, they could suck it. Looking up at the other, he realized the world didn't need another Tony Stark. It needed another Captain America. Well, at least, someone like him, because Tony could never be Captain America, but he could damn well try his best.
"I mean, if you like it, that's all up to you," he teased right back. "I never knew you swung that way, Captain." It was all in good fun, of course. He took the clothes from Steve's hand, realizing where Steve's gaze had gone to. Of course--of course. Should he start off his long series of debriefings with Rogers? Should he get some practice. The only thing that Tony was afraid of was that he would start and never stop, and that was never a good thing, especially about the hole in his chest.
"Shrapnel got into my chest. This powers an electromagnet to keep the shrapnel away from my heart." His tone was considerably more hushed as he put on the shirt quickly, trying his best to cover the glowing up. He'd gotten used to it, but he was not used to the scrutiny of others staring at it and his hideous collection of scars around it. It seemed he was finally back in the real world, and the worst part was that he wasn't sure he wanted to be there.
"I'm fine, really. Do you have any cheeseburgers on here, by any chance?"
âYou have ten minutes, so make it quick.â
"How about eleven?"
Whereas the comment normally would have ticked her off, today it rolled off her back. They were in too much of a hurry for her to waste time telling him off. Instead, she chose to respond to his question. âUpstairs, on your bed, where you would have been if you slept like a normal human being.â
Pepper held the door to the workshop open, waiting for Tony to pass through it. âI havenât had nearly enough coffee to be patient with you this morning, so if you could just⌠Go get dressed, then we would get along great right now.â
"Yeah, I'm god-like status, so I'm not like a normal human being. I'll be back in a flash."
Tony jogged over to the elevator door, pressing the up button a little impatiently. It was clear that he had too many espresso shots and not enough actual sleep.
"You wanna come up? Turn that frown upside down."
The music was louder and louder. Surprisingly, it doesnât bother Natasha. Not now. She didnât even pay attention to the crowd. Maybe they are acting in a different way around her after the accident with a stranger or maybe the company wasnât a bad idea. Romanoff took an olive from her empty glass.Â
She ignored the manâs first sentence. âFinally.â A small smirk crossed her lips. âYes, I have to seduce the local millionaire.â Natasha glanced at him. âA woman needs a little time off. What about you ?â
Tony's sense of hearing was miraculously unharmed by years of blasting music. In fact, he had very selective hearing, able to hear Natasha's every word without asking her to repeat herself. When she mentioned millionaire, he raised an eyebrow, sipping at his own drink.
"Millionaire? Now who's this?" he inquired, curious. "I'd have to say the same for me."

"I-I know you did," Pepper whispered, burying her face in his neck, "I saw after⌠I felt so bad, feel so bad. Iâm sorry I didnât answer.â
She sniffled and kissed his neck softly, âC-can we go lay down? I just.. I just need to hold you.â
Tony ran his fingers through Pepper's strawberry blonde locks, grateful for her closeness. This was everything he wanted but it wasn't enough. Nothing would be enough after the manhole.
"Yes. Couch or bed?" he inquired. Once she was asleep, he had to get to work. What if there was an invasion tomorrow? Or the day after that? He had to be prepared.

"Coffee would be great!" She bounced up. Gwen wondered if it might have been a better idea to hide this enthusiasm; she didnât want to come off as a spaz. "I mean, thank you; Mr.Stark."
Oh, it was far too late. Tony had already noticed the enthusiasm, but that was why she was staying. A smile tugging at his features, Tony poured the coffee into a Stark Industries mug. "How do you take it? Also, I don't like when people thank me."
The God took several steps forward slowly, eyes narrowing as he watched the other closely, ready to attack if he needed to. âI am here trying to live in peace,â Loki growled, watching the other closely.
"What does it say that it has been ten years and you are the first to have come across me?"
"Because this is just my luck," the billionaire huffed, glaring at the other as he stepped forward. This prompted him to take a few steps away.Â
"I see you don't have that glow stick you had before. Whatever happened to that?"

"Ohâwhy are you here then?"
"We've got work to do, according to S.H.I.E.L.D."
i'm so sorry for not being on. i've been busy with real life plus i've been running my tony stark rp account on facebook.Â
however, i'm here now, and am going to get to all things i owe.

"Stark, why are you here?" Loki growled, body tensing up as soon as he noticed the other standing before him.
"I'm walking," he responded, immediately tensing up when he heard the familiar tone, ready to summon the armor to his skin if need be. He'd rather not do that, but if Loki tried to put his hands on him, he wouldn't hesitate.Â
"Actually, I think I'm going to ask you: why are you here, Blitzen?"

ââ  âI do not 'flatter' myself, Mortal. If you wish to find someone who does that, you must speak with Thor.â The name is spat out, venomous and hard, even if Loki did not mean for it to sound so rude. Oh well, it was too late to take it back now.
Whether it's by the expression on his features or the arms crossed over his chest, t's very clear that Loki's rubbed him the wrong way. However, at the mention of the infamous God of Thunder, Tony looks just a little confused. â... Alright. Exactly which loony bin did you escape from? Or did you come here on a time capsule from the 1500's--because no one talks like that and no one would ever name their child 'Thor.'â

Pepper let out a breath and moved her arms to wrap around Tonyâs waist, snuggling in, âI thought,â she started, pausing, unsure of how to word what she was feeling, âI thought I saw⌠I thought I saw you die Tony.â
Shaking, she turned her head and kissed his cheek, âI just.. I canât believe youâre here⌠That youâre okay.â
Pepper hugged him tight to her, unable to stop crying, âPlease⌠Just⌠Just hold me for a bit, Tony.â
"Well, I thought I was going to."
I should've, he thought, but wisely chose not to say it aloud, instead letting his fingers thread through Pepper's hair. "Like I said, I'm not going anywhere. I think I deserve a day or two off."
Another attempt at his usual sarcasm. This time, it wasn't as pathetic.Â
"I called you, you know. Well, it kind of failed, but I don't know if you could see it."
A friendly reminder that the only reason Tony did the reading, is so Pepper would have sex with him

Natasha crossed her legs and took a deep breath. She shouldnât be surprised that her loneliness ended in this way. At the beggining of this party, one man tried to kiss her. Without feeling his manhood he was escorted by a friend. Another reason why Natasha Romanoff likes to drink alone.Â
âThe feeling is mutual.â A change of tone. However, Starkâs presence wasnât that bad. But you couldnât notice even a shadow of emotion on her face. Natasha raised slightly her hand, waiting for a drink. âAgain. Wrong place, Stark. You should be with your new party-girls, testing their skills.â An unnoticed twitch of the corners of her mouth. Natasha is just teasing him.
Considering their history and her past deception, the very least that the billionaire should be is wary. However, he simply offers up one of those coy smiles and plays right along. Natasha isn't all that bad either--if she was, he wouldn't even associate with her these days. Let bygones be bygones, as they say.
"You certainly look the part of a party-girl, Agent Romanoff. I'll get you a drink. You on a mission?"

Pepper let out a shaky breath at what Tony said, her anger at him fading as she listened to him. She looked up at him, her hands moving to rest on his chest - one on either side of the reactor.
"I was so worried," Pepper whispered, voice shaking more than the bottle in the engineerâs hand. "I⌠I saw you⌠Fly into that wormhole and fall, and.. And I missed your call, Tony, I-Iâm sorry.â
Tears were falling freely down her face by this point and she moved in closer, by inches, and rested her head against him. âIâm sorry Tony⌠Iâm sorry⌠I, I thought you were dead and I didnât get to talk to youâŚâ
Emotionally exhausted and scared beyond measure, Pepper sniffled, âI love youâŚâ
Tony blinked a few times in surprise but relaxed somewhat, setting the bottle in his hand to the side. If he'd held on, he would've dropped it, as his hand was shaking much more when it came to rest on Pepper's hair, fingers moving into her hair. Â He felt himself become choked up and swallowed quickly, horrified.
Tony Stark didn't cry.
"Stop apologizing," he murmured, tone hoarse, letting her lean on him. He'd almost died plenty of times--so why was it so different now?
"I'm not goin' anywhere," a beat. "I love you too."
