I did want to say in the first chapter's notes, but I am not a historian. I am not a professional academic, I am flying by the seat of my pants with this whole thing, so if I make some silly error, just.. uh.... Ignore it?! I am writing when I have free time, which isn't much, and am doing my best! I have no beta readers or anything and I'm just posting these things by shutting my eyes and hoping for the best. Anyway, I have this baby planned out (for once!) and will hopefully make this slow, painful beginning (in my opinion) pay off in the end!

It's Friday! A new chapter of Willow Run is coming this afternoon! (I am struggling to keep up with this schedule I've set for myself. Already a week behind, but ya know what, at least I'm doing it! 🤣)
Also, Jamie is in this chapter. I am so freaking ready to get to the good stuff!!!
I had a super insane week (and it's not over yet!) So while I am trying to get chapter two ready to go for tomorrow afternoon, I will say now that it may not happen. Which means you'll get TWO chapters next week!!!
And I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all the lovely comments and kudos on the first chapter! Glad you enjoyed it and it will only get better! ❤️❤️❤️

Is the app sucking for anyone else lately. For the last few weeks, whenever I try to post something, or save a draft, or whatever, it fails and I have learned that any text I write will have to be copy and pasted to a document so in case it fails I have a copy 😒
Claire Beauchamp, thrown into a carriage in the middle of the night by a frantic uncle, is sent to Willow Run. As a nurse to a sickly girl whose world is a single bedroom, Claire must navigate her new existence, finding unexpected help from the intriguing young man living in the gamekeepers cottage beyond the unkempt gardens. As light is shown on Willow Run's deepening cracks, secrets are unearthed that will threaten Claire's newfound happiness.

A snippet of the story below the cut!
The cries could be heard all the way in the basement kitchens, where Claire was hungrily grabbing a bite to eat before the bell rang, before all hell broke loose. Scrambling out of her seat, she tied her apron and rushed up the innumerable steps to the third floor of the house, her breath catching as she clutched her chest racing down the final corridor.
The screams were deafening now, and despite Claire’s insistence on doing the job she was hired to do, she was greatly hesitant to enter the room. Alexa was in a right state, obviously, and something had to be done.
Bumping into a stunned Mrs. Davis at the door, Claire rushed to Lex’s bedside. The girl was red-faced, sweating, and immeasurably angry. Claire had never seen her like this, though it had only been three weeks since her arrival.
“What in the world is going on?” She asked the room. Along with Mrs. Davis, Claire’s assistant Martha was there, too, standing useless and frozen, moving her head rapidly from Lex to Mrs. Davis, clearly questioning what it was she should be doing.
“Lex, it’s me…Claire - remember me, darling?”
“I only wanted to give her a bath, ma'am! Mrs. Davis said it needed to be done this morning, so I had the warm water brought up and everything! I did what I was told, but-”
Martha’s pleading had been cut off by a scream from Lex; Mrs. Davis shoved Martha’s shoulder and hissed through her teeth for Martha to be quiet.
Lex pressed herself into her pillows as Claire attempted to get closer.
“Go away! All of you! Get out! Get out of my room!” Lex spat, staring everyone down, daring them to ignore her demands. Claire looked back at Mrs. Davis, who was whispering something to Martha.
“Has this ever happened before?” Claire demanded to know, her eyes going wide as the two other women left the room. She was on her own, then, Claire thought, and clueless as she was about Lex’s condition, Claire decided to wait and see what might happen if she just sat and observed. Lex was balled up in her pillows, shaking her head at Claire’s gaze.
It wasn’t long before the door burst open again, Martha coming in, out of breath and wet from rain, with the red-headed carriage driver Claire had seen on her arrival walking swiftly behind her. His face was intent, and he glanced at Claire briefly, then went to Lex’s bedside, easing himself on the edge of the mattress. He had to duck to get under the heavy canopy, and he pulled his coat off, tossing it on a chair nearby.
Claire heard him murmuring under his breath, Lex listening with great interest. It reminded Claire of how she’d heard him speak to the horses that rainy first night. She hadn’t seen him since, and wondered if he even lived on the grounds. She watched in amazement as Alexa was returning to her normal color, her light blonde hair pushed away from her damp forehead by large, soft hands. Lex nodded to the man, sniffed a bit, then laid back down. The man patted one of her feet briefly before Mrs. Davis cut in, causing Claire to jerk with surprise.
“All right, that’s it. All done, get out of here. And don’t be seen.”
The man only nodded, glancing once at Lex, then at Claire. His face was unreadable; he shuffled out the door while Mrs. Davis urged him to be quick about it. Claire could only stand and watch, swallowing the questions forming on her lips. Mrs. Davis didn’t care for her questions at the best of times.
Seeing that Lex was back in one piece, calm and already half asleep from exhaustion, Claire turned and followed the man out into the corridor.

Going to vent here about a personal thing... Feel free to ignore!
I have the sweetest fourth grade girl. She's smart,.pretty, funny, creative. All the good stuff. She is one of the youngest in her class, and to top that off she is small. Short, thin. It's just the way she is, and I love her for it. She is a pretty independent thinker, wants to do her own thing, has her ideas and seems okay with just not worrying about other people in her class/grade.
Yet, she comes home and is unhappy, saying that she has no friends at school. There is one girl in her class who lives down the street from us and she begs us to let her go play in the neighborhood with this girl (and we do let her).
But this girl is straight up mean to her. She's broken her stuff, ruined clothes, etc. and we urge my kiddo to just NOT be friends with her because this girl is not a good friend. But she won't because the girl is 'the only friend I have!'
Today I went to the school for an event outside where the kids run laps to raise money and my kid was there with the entire fourth grade.... Totally alone. She walked/ran with a boy she knows some, but... He's a boy. I don't mind her having a boy friend, but they won't/can't be close like girls are, especially at this age.
It just makes me want to sob in a corner seeing her alone. Literally no girls spoke to her at all. They all ran in their groups. It is so difficult to insert yourself into an already formed group, especially as a female.
I just hate it for her, and wish I knew what I'd done wrong, and how I could fix it. 😭
I know literally no one cares, but since this is my writing place,.I just want to pat myself on the back for writing for like two hours today.
Mapping out a story from scratch is so rough and most of the time I'm clueless as to where things should go or if an idea is too dumb to hold on to. But I made progress today on a project I've worried myself over for years.
I’ve just reread One More Try, your writing is spot on, any chance you would to release the follow up, The Lighthouse, (and all your other stories too, they are really good, you should be very proud).
Wishing you well, stay safe,
Irene
Hi @silentobserversworld! Thanks for the message, and the kind words!
I know I came back with this new story all of a sudden and then...uh... Disappeared again! For better or worse, Summer is not the best time for me in terms of free time (kids are out of school!) so while I'd love to sit and write, or repost One More Try for you! I cannot, not right now. But I will do it in a month or so when the kids are in school again.
Thanks again. And I appreciate your patience!!! ❤️❤️❤️

A teenage Claire Beauchamp, after a tumultuous few years, catches a glimpse of a new neighbor. Harboring a secret crush, she allows herself to become captivated with his life as seen through her window. Will she ever have the courage to make herself known?
I haven't even done any artwork or anything for this story, and I'm completely hating the title, but here it goes, anyway. The first chapter is super short, but I figured it's better than nothing. Hoping that posting this will get me writing again, because I miss it! Thanks for reading!
