"I don’t care." He pouted, wanting to cross his arms over his chest but finding that he couldn’t since his wrist was still embraced. "Isn’t that why we should live in the moment?" Always the romantic. "You should never steer from the path of your heart. If you want something, you should go for it, because in the quickest of moments…it can be gone. But then, at least your heart got to feel, even for the smallest time frame." He nodded, satisfied with his response.
Maybe some of it was the alcohol, cutting his guard down. But for a moment there, Cid’s expression grew tender, green eyes softened as he watched the blonde make claims of love against time itself. For the briefest time, the tough outer shell of the reaper broke down, revealing the young boy who had died too soon, kind but sad. Without thinking, he reached out a hand to tilt Tamaki’s chin, bringing him closer as he gently claimed the other’s mouth with his own.
He pulled away slightly when he became more aware of himself, but still kept close, his forehead touching the other’s. “..Pr’mise me then. Tha’ ya won’t come after me when I leave? I c’nna’ give you more than now.”
Things never worked out with mortals. Reapers were always cautioned against it- loving mortals only meant heartbreak. There was no way to save them from their impending fates, no matter how much you gave them, they would always die in the end. But Cid had been alone for so long, and the brightness of Tamaki’s enthusiasm shown out like the sun after years of wintry grey.
Tamaki’s heart fluttered desperately as the other pulled him closer, their lips meeting again, this time on Cid’s territory and rules. He melted against the other, allowing their lips to linger and glide amongst each other, before he blinked through the haze as the English boy pulled away, about to whimper for him to come back, but they stayed close enough for Tamaki’s comfort. Hearing the other speak, his violet eyes widened, and he bit his lip. He was good at keeping promises, as hard as they were.
"I wish I didn’t have to promise you that." He murmured, closing his eyes to take a breath, before flicking them back open, his own looking hurt. He’d had such a struggle with his emotions for Haruhi who seemed to not care or notice. For Kyoya, who very obviously loved him back, but was too cold and stubborn to do much. He acted so happy all the time, but inside he felt utterly alone. "Why? Why did you come here….just to leave? It makes no sense. it’s like….you’re telling me you’re hours from death. We can stay in contact. I can find you again." He whispered desperately, hands clutching the other.
"Cid…." He frowned, but he nodded. "I promise you. But if you’re ever in town again, promise ME that you’ll find me." He murmured, the effect of the alcohol wearing off, leading him to shiver in the cold of his roof. He wrapped his arms tight around himself, glancing skyward once more, before back at Cid with a warm smile. "Do you want to go inside? Watch a movie or…do something?"
Cid didn’t move, not feeling the cold himself. It was a mortal need he no longer held, like breathing while sleeping, or regular eating patterns.
"Ya well, them’s tha terms." He answered, growing a little cocky once more in an effort to hide his true nature. Honestly, it was selfish of him to take up Tamaki on his offer at all… but if the blonde promised to let him go, there would be plenty of other people to love him when Cid left. People who aged at the same rate, who could spend a proper lifetime loving the eager young prince.
He shook his head slightly, not wanting to answer Tamaki’s questions. “B’siness takes y’ elsewhere, y’ know tha’.” He let his hand slide down from grasping Tamaki’s wrist, letting his fingers entwine with the other’s. ” I dun’ wantcha’ waistin’ time chasin’ after me, wh’n you got other happiness b’fore ya, eh? ..We c’n go in if yer cold.”
Tamaki frowned, still not liking those terms at all. Perhaps because they were terms he just couldn’t understand. Or, even moreso, because they were terms he was too familiar with. When he was fourteen, his mother had been torn from his life without a rhyme or reason. He’d had to get on a plane to Japan, no goodbyes, and hadn’t seen her again since. Was that why he was so scared? Because the familiarity jabbed at his heart, making him drop the confident princely attitude and seem, well, weak? He frowned at this, but clenched the other’s hand, giving a nod.
"I’m aware. I’m too aware." Business. That was why Cid had to leave? Tamaki hated business for that very reason. It tore people from their friends. Their family. He looked up into the bespectacled eyes of the other, and he briefly nodded, another shudder going through his body. The alcohol was wearing off now, and he wished he could have more. Then again, it was a depressant, was it not? Maybe that was why the somber downfall of his drunken state was making him slightly miserable.
"I have a rather nice television set up in my bedroom. We can watch whatever you want." He smiled gently, trying to perk up for the other’s sake, before standing carefully on the roof, heading back over to the hole in which they’d climbed through, before gesturing for Cid to go first with a smile. After all, he was the highest gentleman he could think of. "Go ahead, I’ll catch up. And I promise, I won’t do something stupid like jump off the roof."
Cid frowned, watching Tamaki. It hurt him to not be able to tell the blonde the truth. And yet... would Tamaki really accept him if he knew what he was? Tamaki seemed more than willing to make friends with the living, but from what Cid had seen he had no interest in the macabre. He wouldn't understand, and more than likely be frightened. It was better to leave things vague.
Cid stood up with ease, following his host toward the opening. He glanced at the hole, then back at Tamaki. "If yer sure..." Tamaki was the one who was cold after all, so it seemed odd that he'd let Cid go first. Shaking his head desperately to clear his thoughts, Cid's dirty blonde bangs fell in his eyes. Tamaki was trying to treat him like one of his girls again! "...Alr'igh', but y' better hurry up, yeah?"
Cid climbed down the narrow passage easily, landing catlike in the hall down below before looking up to see if Tamaki was following.
