“Wow…” That’s what I thought after watching a couple of Brisa’s videos online. There was something quietly powerful about her; her voice felt soft with an almost shy-like yet certain presence. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting such a young artist to carry that much soulfulness in her performances. You guys know I’m constantly listening to music and researching “new” artists to interview and share with you here, but what I heard from Brisa really blew me away...

With a personality that lights up the room, that’s how I would describe Friné, a singer-songwriter from Mexico who is pure energy. I came across one of her songs on YouTube, and I was instantly hooked. The song “Ser eso y más” blends dreamy melodies with the perfect touch of futuristic pop, the type of mix that invites you to dance and gently demands a repeat listen...

Tao Izzo wasn’t just any designer. His clientele included some of Mexico’s biggest stars, like theatrical producer Fela Fábregas, actresses such as Evangelina Elizondo and Sasha Montenegro, and singer Lola Beltrán. Most notably, he served as the personal designer for legendary actress María Félix, or “La Doña,” a nickname that was given to her because of her commanding presence both on and off screen.

I’ve found a few singers who have been on repeat ever since I first heard their songs. Why these particular singers? For me, it’s the emotion behind their artistry. There’s something magical and comforting about an artist who is not afraid to find joy and play around with melodies, rhythms, and emotions to create their music. 

Finding an artist comfortable enough in their own skin to share their experience with the world is not an easy task. Within the indie music scene, Lilly Yan feels refreshingly nostalgic. Let me explain myself.

Sometimes things are meant to be discovered, right? Well, that is exactly what happened to me a couple of weeks ago as I was going through my email. I came across what appeared to be an invitation to listen to a new track by an artist named Lilly Yan. Curiosity got the best of me, and I’m glad it did. As soon as I listened to “Un Ratito Más,” I was hooked in what felt like a nostalgic high.
