“I am all the date I need. Besides, doing paperwork for the Wizengamot is so much fun, I barely have time for a social life these days.”

“Well, at least you get to hang out with me. And I like to think I’m a tad more fun than paperwork.”

“Oh,” Adeline said, breathing out a sigh of relief. “I’ll be fine. I’ve had a hell of a day.”

“Are you sure? I’m all ears if you wanna talk.”

“I am not envious,” Mary admitted.

“I doubt anyone would be.”

‘ Okay, so there on the left it’s a wall and on the right there’s a garbage can- you with me?’

“Ah, so nothing has changed at all.”

“I can live with that. And you know the first step to having a great time is getting buzzed.” Dorcas snagged two champagne flutes off a passing tray and held hers up. “Cheers to you.”

“And cheers to you.” Greta said with a smile as she clinked her glass against Dorcas’s before taking a sip of champagne. "Did you bring a date tonight or are you here yourself?”

“Well as long as you continue to believe your friends who love you and are always right, it doesn’t matter if you can see it.”

“I could argue against it.” Greta chuckled. “But I think we should just accept we both look great tonight and have a great time.”

“Confidence is half the battle, honestly. Just act like you know you’re good enough, and no one will question it.”

“I’m just not used to getting dressed up. I’d rather be in my pyjamas than a fancy ball gown any day.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. You put all the puffed-up peacocks to shame with your understated glamour.” 

“I don’t think I could ever see myself as glamourous. But I’m gonna take the compliment anyway.”
