Just a few weeks ago I was triple-checking my duffle bag and heading up to Santa Barbara with my mom and my sister-in-law Justine to tackle the Avon walk for breast cancer. More than six months earlier, the three of us committed to raise at least $1800 each and walk 39.3 miles over two days - all in support and awareness of breast cancer research, prevention and treatments. To be honest, I wasn't really intimidated by the thought of walking that far because it was such an arbitrary number. Only once I started actually training and realizing just how long five or ten miles takes to walk did I start to get nervous. The biggest concern for me upon signing up was figuring out how to actually raise $1800. It seemed like an crazy high amount for one person to pull together and I was already envisioning having to beg and hound people for their support right up to the day of the walk. Wow, was I ever wrong. I started fundraising on February 19th and by March 16th I had surpassed $1800 - less than a month!! As of the end of Avon walk weekend I had raised $2463. #mindblown The biggest surprise for me wasn't my friends that donated, though I had some INCREDIBLY generous donations from friends - some who are relatively new friends and also friends I haven't seen in years which was so amazing and touching. No, The real shocker was the donations I received from people I've NEVER MET*. There's a common thread among these supporters, and it's that they're almost all big fans of five talented singers I'm lucky enough to call friends. Yes - the Pentaholics. I don't know how to begin thanking you guys for your selfless and generous support and your genuine words of encouragement and congratulations. It meant and means the world to me and I'll never ever forget it. Pentatonix is so lucky and thankful to have such devoted and caring fans and I'm awed by seeing just a fraction of that support. I want to list my official donors here (in order of donation date) but sincere thanks to so many of you who offered your encouragement in place of a donation. #TeamMilkDuds Donors: - Rachel Shrpinger - Terry Diane (@TerryDianePTX) - Sara Elliott (@TheBaddest_Girl) - Liz Lott (@lizlottable) - Darine Pokawatana (@rockstarpetals) - Kim Ng (@KimPiggie) - Jacquelyn Dearborn - Kevin Kaurin (@kaurikr) - Anna Karplus - Barbara Bennett - Barbara Booth #TEAMbpw - Sandy Alincastro (@SandyAlincastro) - Jessie Crockett - Tara (@TaraPTX) - Stephanie Turner - Michael Rudoni - Parinda Patel - Peggy and Amy Hughes - Scott Hoying (@scotthoying) - Hao Lam - Cory Southworth - Jess Fedderly - Peter Cillela (@petercillela) - Katie Caskey (@katiedidMN) - Bob DeMaa - Beth McDonough - John Mudie - Adriana Ryan (@thinkingwitty) - Jamie Footlick - Jennifer King - Dory Benford (@dorybenford) - Ashley Meyer (@smashrenee) - Jackie Trinidad - Karen Keveney - Matt Firlik - Suzanne Reese (@ZZReese) I do want to write more on the experience of the walk itself at some point, but for now...
