Little things I love in B&W

Playing some more with my tilt lens on a sunny day, from the forth floor in Liverpool.

This was originally taken in colour, but it felt like it would have an old art deco Batman-ish kind of feel in B&W. Using my Lumix g95, with a 7artisans 10mm(20 w/focal factor) it came off rather nicely with some tweaking in Snapseed.

Anyhow, I'm pretty pleased with this one.

Taken with a 50mm f/2 Yashica lens on a Lumix 4/3 camera...so, 100mm. We were rushing out the door when I took a quick snap from the hallway into the bedroom. I love this picture! Taken in colour, but worked on it in Snapseed for a cool B&W output.

I was in the Baltic Fleet, Liverpool. This fellow in front of me was in the light and the photo needed to be taken as the contrast was outstanding. Great old pub where sea shanties were common.

I was heading downtown and noticed this bit of sun hitting a storefront door curtain. I stood there for some time with an old clunker Olympus 55mm f/1.2 lens on my Lumix G95 camera as I went in and out with the manual focus. Originally taken in color, but very little color was to be had. In addition, I pulled a curve in Photopea to tweak the contrast.

This is my spare bedroom. Set up with a little shelf and mirror for my wife to do hair & makeup. Some days the light comes in from a tiny room next door that that is truly outstanding.

One might think I'm obsessed with my car/tire place as I keep posted images from there, lol. This...this one comes from my new/used camera, a Lumix G95 with a $100 Yongnuo 17mm f/1.7 (like a 35mm focal length with crop) I used one of the B&W settings and it was pretty nice straight out of the can, then tweaked it a bit later in Affinity, by Canva. A free software to download that seriously competes with photoshop. After being a studio photographer for years and years, I'm now training my 61-year-old eyes on cool contrasty street scenes as I go back into my hobby.

Afterwards, I tweaked it a little bit more in Snapseed.

Crazy right? This was in Harrisonburg VA, around 2008. I was out prop shopping late at night when I walked by a Barnes & Noble/coffee counter window and took a quick snap.

I don't subscribe to the big J, but liked the way this looked just the same as an aesthetic with contrast. Oct 2025, Staunton Virginia.
