It was over...

The ender species dominated over all dimensions. All those creatures they had created... Were now endangered or extinct. The colors of every dimension in existence had now been replaced by purples and blacks, colors that perhaps in another context would be beautiful.

They still remembered with some fondness when the four Host were a team that would see to the balance in the dimensions. Especially for their greatest and most beautiful creation...

The overworld

How they were all excited for a balanced dimension, where evil and good would find the perfect point to collide with each other and have an endless battle, enough so that no existing creature would be bored between their little pointless debates trying to win. A small smile had come out of what mortals would call a "face".

Something that did not go unnoticed by them.

—"Are you reliving the past?"

They asked with their characteristic tone of superiority that would force any living being to start trembling. Plus they didn't even possess "life" as such. So the only thing that caused me was my energy to drain immediately upon hearing my companion. The only one who was close to me.

Ever since that time.

—"Something like that, Ambition" I didn't feel much like talking. Much less if it was about them. I knew their old name was something they didn't hear very often, wondered how they would react to it. That entity that used to consider itself divine, turned to look at me with its three characteristic eyes on its main face. Something similar to laughter came out of their mouth revealing a huge mouth with sharp teeth.

—"I haven't heard that name in a while.... I guess I missed you calling me that" they had stayed the same way for quite a while until they realized they was looking too much towards me and stopped.

After that little exchange of dialogue the silence returned and now more than ever it felt empty, almost as horrible as that time when all this had started...

When they banished everyone but me. I had never dared to ask, disappointment prevented me from doing so, but if they were to be locked up there for the rest of eternity at least I needed to pretend that I had a good company by my side; that's what I wanted at least, I would never have imagined their answer.

—"Why did you do it, why only me?"

“You should know that, Knowledge, for old times!”

They… still remembered that?

I didn’t know how to process this new information. I couldn’t forgive them for everything they’d done a few centuries ago—condemning the species the four of us had created to a fate worse than death, a life filled with agony where they’re enslaved by a race superior to them.

I always regret having created them...

—“Stop making such a big deal out of it; you know very well that we both wanted to see what would happen!”

The entity exclaimed with its characteristic smile and an inexplicable enthusiasm.

“I’d also forgotten that we were this connected.”

To be honest, I didn’t remember that our internal monologues intertwined in such an intimate way. While with the other hosts, sensations and emotions were something the three of us shared, there were concepts I didn’t fully understand. A clear example was Action; I never understood them. I think I was starting to miss them, even if just a little.

This wasn’t the case with Ambition.

Or as they was now known, “The Heart of the Ender” (I refused to call them by that name). As much as I disliked them and constantly denied it, I had always understood the reason behind their actions. There wasn’t a single time I hadn’t understood. And yet I turned my back on them.

“Stop stressing so much over something that’s already happened!” The corrupt three-eyed host grabbed me and lifted me up to the place where we could see into the different dimensions. They made me watch the Ender species everywhere.

Seeing them function in such a... perfect way, made me wonder if this really was wrong. The memory of when all this happened was still fresh in my mind.

We were simply experimenting to see what kind of creatures we could create.

Just the two of us.

Without any intervention from Foresight or Action.

It was kind of funny when our first specimen emerged from my crafting table. It walked over to Ambition and bit them; I let out a little laugh—it was unavoidable. My companion, in an attempt to tease me, jokingly ordered it to “attack” me, but all it did was walk toward me on its little legs and grab my arm. Almost as if it were seeking something else, not just to exist.

“It was… cute, in a way,”

I finally replied. I figured they’d been going along with my thoughts the whole time.

They simply let out a small laugh in response—not the kind they used to make, but a much warmer one, with no intention of being frightening.

They turned to look at me, and I noticed that their expression had softened considerably.
