Writer’s Block

A picture says a thousand words. Write them.

Mission: Write a story, a description, a poem, a metaphor, a commentary, or a critique about this picture. Write something about this picture.

1. You count the hours until you can read the book again.

2. You’re drowning in work and don’t have time to read, but you still read.

3. Reality becomes this annoying background noise.

4. You want to finish it, but then again you don’t want to finish it.

Are you uninspired? It’s okay. We all get into our inspiration slumps. There are so many methods and tricks to get motivated and inspired for a new project. However, most of the tips given to me never really helped me. NaNoWriMo is inching closer and closer towards us, and many of the writers who participate in such torture know that inspiration is crucial, especially when the threat of “Writers’ Block” looms nearby, threatening to attack at any given moment. Even worse is the possibility of October ending, and a participant realizing that they have absolutely nothing to write about.

Do not panic! I have a solution, or, at least, my own solution for such disastrous moments.

Dear reader, I assume you are aware of “Thirty Day Writing Challenges”. If you are not, I shall explain: those challenges are basically a series of prompts meant to cause a write great panic from having to post a piece of writing inspired by those prompts every single day of the month. Now, those aren’t mandatory, but if you are like me, not making it to the end of the month results in anxiety and feelings of discomfort.

HOWEVER, while those challenges can be a great burden, they have become my saving grace when it comes to inspiration. One month, I came across a challenge hosted by “The Writers’ Hub” on Tumblr, and decided to make it more interesting: each prompt would be actually a basis for a scene from a bigger project. I actually came up with a full-fledged story, though I haven’t drafted the whole thing… Basically, what I am saying is that sometimes, you have to think out of the box in order to get inspiration. Therefore, I have decided to give you my own challenge to you, to keep your inspire-juices running during November (or during anytime you’re stuck on a project). So, I give to you, thirty writing prompts to use for your story in November. You don’t have to take them literally, or figuratively, nor do you have to use them all. However, if you can use them all as triggers for each chapter in your book this month, you will probably get one of those fancy purple bars. Good luck, Neta.
