Digital Arts Working Group (DAWG) presents
Art from the Masters, Exhibit opening Feb 9, 2018, 6-9pm
An exhibit of traditional and digital artworks inspired by the classics.
Show is open through Feb 17.
I have two pieces in this exhibit.
First, Meander Line, inspired by the Dipylon Greek amphoras of ancient Greece (760-750 BC) . This digital print was created using the programming language Fortran, at Michigan State University and is believed to be a relic in its own right, being one of the first pieces of digital art created at that time.
My other piece is Persephone & Demeter in Hocking Hills, a digital collage created from a deconstructed original watercolor. Mythical figures emerge from the hillside and cavort through the forest celebrating spring and Persephone’s release from the underworld. The peep show format is the historic predecessor of the tunnel book. In the 1600’s traveling showmen carried peep show boxes into village fairs and festivals offering a glimpse of exotic (versus erotic) scenes at the cost of a penny per view.
