The 2026 Met Gala theme, “FASHION IS ART,” felt like a reminder that art isn’t limited to paintings on a wall. It lives in film, theatre, dance, music, literature—and fashion.

The people who truly followed the theme understood that fashion doesn’t have to be safe or predictable. It’s about colour, texture, shape, and design. Sometimes it carries deep meaning, sometimes it doesn’t—and that’s okay. At its core, fashion is visual expression. If it moves you, challenges you, or simply catches your eye, it’s doing exactly what art is meant to do.

One of my personal favourite looks came from Rachel Zegler, whose outfit was inspired by the 1833 painting The “Execution of Lady Jane Grey.” It was a perfect interpretation of the theme, blending fashion with fine art by referencing a historical tragedy and translating it into something modern and wearable. She really stood out to me as it captured the emotional aspect of the original painting very well.
