As part of my IB Art course and my activities in the Harare's Children's Home (HCH), myself and a group of other student decided to go out to the HCH with papers and paints, and get the orphans to be creative, draw and paint.
Many children drew for us and some even agreed to share their life story with us. This was an incredible experience because it was the first time that the truly opened to us.
These kids are just a small portion of a world wide problem where children are left with no one to take care of them. They go through a very tough time as the grow up in a place like that, unable to honestly express themselves to others and consistently competing for love or attention.

GYM
Consistency. That is a real challenge.
There are more than million excuses i can come with to try and convince myself it okay to miss one gym session. or two, or three.
Show perseverance, commitment and consistency in this activity has been a very big challenge for me. Understanding the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance is part of the IB's learner profile; i believe that this activity truly gave me the opportunity to work on that balance.
I found it very easy to skip my gym sessions every time i have an assignment, IA, EE or anything else to work on. Yet i did my best to stay committed to this activity and keep that delegate balance.
Success isn't always about 'greatness". It's about consistency. Consistent hard work gains success. Greatness will come..

Sustainable Innovations Club (SIC)
This year the club worked with a local Zimbabwean organization call Chiedza.
Chiedza Child Care Centre was founded in Harare, Zimbabwe in 2001 and is working to sustain groups of orphans, who either one or both their parents died from HIV.
The centre has a number of board subjunctives:
To provide a caring home for orphans and children in difficult circumstances, (including those infected by HIV/AIDS, chronic illnesses and disabilities).
To establish a home-based care program for children in difficult circumstances (including those infected by HIV/AIDS, chronic illnesses and disabilities)
To co-operate with other resource centres in implementing self help projects for orphans
The year the club organized different event with which we were able to rise money and donated to Chiedza. We donated the following: 200 Pens, 143 notebooks, 5 flip charts, and 5 markers.
We also tried to make efforts to go out and spend time with the children yet those failed, and unfortunately we did not get to interact directly with them.
Student Council
Being a leader is not a very easy task and at times include decision making that causes conflicts.
As the treasurer of this year's student council i worked hard to change the old panthers the club used to follow in a goal to create a more organized system of working and keeping track of the money.
Getting all the members to follow my instructions was extremely challenging, since each one wanted to take insinuative and be independent; therefore members will approach the money with out contacting or informing me. That made it impossible for me to keep track of the money going in or out.
As one of the club's leaders i had to reprove some people again and again. This, at times, created a conflict with those specific students; yet i know it was part of my responsibility. Though, it made me feel like we are not working collaboratively enough.

Speaking up
Talking in front of many people is definitely a skill i must work on, braking through that wall where im usually hiding. Having English as my second language makes everything even harder for me; am i making mistakes? am i pronouncing this word correctly? can people understand? do they think im a fool? these are usually some thought i would share with myself while having to talk in front of people.
CAS really forced me to start developing this skill. First by recognizing it as a weakness and than slowly by taking more and more responsibilities that require the use of this skill.
For example; this is the second year i take part in the ZIMUN conference, though this year was the first year where i experienced being a delegate, representing a country in debates and speaking up. Even though it was difficult at first i slowly adjusted the situation and began actually having fun and being active.

Student Council produced many activities, spirits days and benefits for the student. All these made all members of the club work collaterally with each other. Teem work and mutual respect are a true necessity for this kind of activity.
ZIMUN!
“The power of youth empowerment”
The MUN club (also known as the Model United Nations Club) at Harare International School is a club that greatly resembles the schools motto “Where we thrive and reach for excellence.” The club allows for students to develop essential debate and public speaking skills through stimulating debates that are geared towards educating the participants about current events and international relations.
This year the club held its 7th annual ZIMUN 3 day conference.
Gallery Delta Visit
Being there, surrounded by these beautiful children who would literally fight for your attention, is probably one of nicest things. leaving though is hard. It like this big stone pulling you down from the inside.
They run after the bus and they wave you goodbye. And as you are driving off you feel their traces and body feels heavy.
You are tired, exhausted actually. Not from running around or physically playing with the kids but from feeling this pain just for a little bit. From seeing the way they can unexpectedly start a crazy fight with each other over a candy. From seeing how some kids are pushed or beaten up by others and the moms in the home don't even blink. Then you realize that's their routine, and they will probably live like this for many years.
As an IB Visual Arts student visiting art galleries is one of my favorite activities. I find it extremely inspiring!
This is an exhibition by Tashinga Gondo who had just give birth to her first child, this body of art represents her experience as a young mother. She is a Zimbabwean artist and thus she cooperated Zimbabwean culture within her art. It was very interesting to get to know some of the cultural views of the local Zimbabweans on motherhood and family.

WATER FUNDAY by student council
This was an event held by the student council to try and increase school spirit, allowing the high school students as a whole to enjoy a fun afternoon. This also gave the student the opportunity to interact with other grades and develop new friendships. Personally, as a senior, i don't tend to spend much time with the lower grades, which i know look up us; i believe this was a wonderful and super fun way to interact with everybody.
The organization of this event was a long process. as a club we also tried to encourage younger students to take undertake new challenges and initiate activities. We really worked as a teem to produce this day.
Student Council
This is my second year being part of the high school student council, a body that is working very hard to make the school a better place for the students.
This year I've decided to take more challenge myself, take more responsibility and so i became the student council treasurer.
I am very happy to be able to do more and to work together with a group of students that really want to improve our school and representing the body of students as a whole.
