Venice 2025
A detailed close-up of a decorative marble wall from the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli (Saint Mary of the Miracles).
This church is often referred to by Venetians as the "marble church" or the "jewel box" because it is one of the few buildings in the city where every inch of the exterior and interior is clad in precious polychrome marble.
It was designed and built by Pietro Lombardo and his sons (the Lombardo family) between 1481 and 1489. They were the premier sculptors and architects of the Venetian Renaissance.
