Such as first feelings -> confession -> first kiss -> first affections (hand holding, hugs...) -> first (freaky) time
(I can imagine, that some steps either mix up or blend in together).

Y’know…I haven’t really considered this much before! This is gonna be FUN! I worked on this all day.
SO HERES THE THING…
I think despite them being friends and getting along better, Herm is still..slightly intimidated by Chad. He now has seen Chad’s softer side and he likes that side of Chad. But he under no circumstances thinks for one second that Chad would romantically like him, so he doesn’t even THINK about it. Well, he tries not to. Chad is VERY good looking. His sweet side with how he treats his family is something Herm finds VERY attractive, and they both care very much for Prism. Heck Herm realizes Chad actually cares about him too! It..would be nice if..he had a chance. But he doesn’t. So he doesn’t entertain it at all.
Chad on the other hand, realizes he has feelings for Herm and he is PISSED and actually a little freaked out. He legit FEELS something for this guy. He’s sweet, kind, patient even when Chad is losing his shit. And he is so proud seeing Herm get more confident, confident enough to be a bit of a BITCH at times and Chad LOVES it. HE HELPED WITH THAT. But..Herm is so good. So genuine. He really wants to go for it but he really doesn’t want one of his closest friends to leave him. And he certainly is uncomfortable with being vulnerable.
Prism though is the one to hype Chad up. She wants her boys to get together. She wants her boys to KISS and do BOYFRIEND THINGS. SHE LOVES HER BOYS! She just wants them to be happy. So she brainstorms with Chad to get him his man. And Chad is like “fuck yeah let’s do it!”.
The unfortunate thing is Chad is stuck in this cycle of confident flirting to pushing Herm away cause he’s terrified of being vulnerable. Vulnerability makes him feel weak. So Herm is getting some MAJOR mixed messages. Heck he thinks Chad somehow found out about his crush and is making fun of him again. Maybe he’s disgusted or finds Herm pathetic. More pathetic than usual at least. So Herm is actually feeling worse and worse.
And when he tells Prism this when they hand out, Prism wants to beat Chad’s ass cause Herm is legit tearing up and saying he thought they were friends. And he thought maybe Chad liked him but then he’s just…pushing him away. Chad is making fun of him! Prism gives the suggestion that maybe Chad had some complicated feelings going on and he doesn’t know how to express them. He already has a hard time expressing and showing his true feelings. After Herm leaves, Prism calls Chad and is like “you have to fix this shit NOW. Herm thinks you HATE him.” Chad is like “Oh fuck”.
So they’re in the locker rooms one day, just the two of them, and Chad decides he’s just going to tell Herm how he feels. But when he goes to Herm and goes to say something, he finds himself struggling. Herm is confused cause Chad looks..irritated. Then Chad says “you piss me off”. Chad immediately regrets how he said this when Herm looks heartbroken.
He asks why Chad hates him so much? He thought they were friends. But now Chad is acting mean again! Chad is playing with his feelings and he didn’t even know how Chad figured it out but now Chad is confusing him. He thought Chad liked him back maybe but then he pushes him away and he doesn’t know what to do! He just wants to fix it!
Chad then pins Herm to the locker and Herm is startled. And Chad seethes a little, saying he doesn’t hate Herm. He doesn’t know how to feel about him. He wants Herm so bad but he fucking hates being vulnerable and this whole thing is pissing him off! Why can’t it be EASY?
And Herm blinks, tears falling but he’s in disbelief. Chad sighs and says that this is as honest as he’s going to get. This is all he can handle right now, so Herm can take it or leave it. And Herm is shocked and he asks again if Chad DOES like him. And Chad nods, not able to speak. And he’s..not going to apologize…yet. Herm knows it’s hard for him. Chad is trying to look tough but..Herm can see in his eyes he’s scared.
So Herm accepts, face red. Chad is now the one in disbelief but only for a moment before that confident, smirking Chad comes back. He says he’s gonna blow Herm’s mind with their first date. It’s gonna look like all his other dates he’s been on look like shit. And Herm laughs a little and he says it’s not gonna be hard since half the time he was ghosted or they showed up and immediately left. Chad’s eyes narrow and he asks who the FUCK did that and Herm gulps.
Their first date is sweet. Chad may not admit this cause he’s somewhat noncommittal (he’s never found the right person so he just stopped caring after a while) but he is a bit of a romantic. He wants the person he goes on dates with to have a good time. And this person he’s with..means a lot to him. He doesn’t think any of his previous boyfriends meant this much to him, and yeah he’s had a few boyfriends. He knows how to pull a really good date off, you just have to pay a-fucking-ttention to what this person is interested in.
They go to the aquarium (Chad hates it there, it kind of freaks him out but Herm loves it) and Herm is excitedly showing Chad all the fish. Herm notices though that Chad looks a little uncomfortable and he asks what’s up. Chad says nothing is up. And Herm looks a bit..sad and he asks if Chad is not having a good time. Chad says he is (since he gets to see Herm be so excited and gush about fish and other sea creatures). Herm looks at the fish tanks and asks if Chad is worried about the water. And Chad sighs, knowing what that must look like to Herm and he says he doesn’t like being in a space where there’s a fuck ton of water and no way to get out of it. If the glass broke somehow, he’s fucked. And Herm blinks and actually laughs a little. Chad is OFFENDED and he’s like “oh I open up to you and-?!”. But Herm reassures him that the aquarium is
one of the bests in the country. It’s gonna be tricky for the glass to crack. But if it did, Herm would help get Chad to safety. And Chad actually blushes but scoffs and says he doesn’t need saving.
And as they go through the aquarium, they see jellyfish, sea otters, penguins and there’s even touch tanks. Chad thinks Herm is insane for petting a sting ray but he also looks happy. And when they leave (Chad hooks Herm with some things from the gift shop and Herm insists Chad get something too) Chad is more in his element, because he is taking Herm to a small Afghan restaurant. The people who run it are of course happy to see Chad and they talk for a bit, though Herm can’t understand them. He does notice Chad’s cheeks go a little red and the family look at Herm before grinning and they nod.
They sit down and Herm says it’s weird that they aren’t having anyone take their orders. Chad says they usually do, but he wants Herm to try some food. And yeah, it’s vegetarian and dairy free cause he asked them to have yogurt on the side. And Herm is surprised and he flusters a little. And when their food comes, Chad guides him through the potato Ghorma and Aushak dumplings and Herm really likes it. Chad has made them all food before but he’s always been “shut up and eat it” not talking about how his mom makes it or how he let have his little sister have more Aushak than he would.
At the end of the date, Chad drops Herm off at home and Herm says he had a really good time. Chad smirks a little and says of course he did. It was with him. But he then he says “we should do it again.”. And Herm is surprised but he grins and agrees.
They go on more dates and on one date, Herm reaches out to hold Chad’s hand as they walk together. He retracts his hand though but Chad saw it. Instead he grabs Herm’s hand before lacing their fingers together, telling Herm if he’s gonna hold his hand to do it properly. It’s not long after that hand holding event that Herm initiates a hug, a real hug, before they part. And Chad pauses but he hugs back. And despite all the steam, Herm’s coolness feels good. He feels..present.
A few months in of this, they’re on a date when someone talks to Herm. Herm just smiles and says he’s on a date with his boyfriend! Chad freezes. Boyfriend? Wait, really? Is that what they are? Herm looks over at Chad and sees the expression he’s making. Herm asks if he’s okay and Chad just says “boyfriend?”. Herm blinks and says they’ve been dating all this time. Are they not…boyfriends? Chad says they never established they WERE. And now not only is Chad feeling anxious, but Herm is too. Chad realizes oh this is the LONGEST relationship he’s ever had and it’s only been a few months! Shit! He notices Herm starting to spiral so he drags Herm back to his car. Herm is scared and Chad tells him to breathe, but Herm Is apologizing profusely. He didn’t mean to assume he just-
Chad says he isn’t upset by that. Herm asks WHY he’s also freaking out then? Chad says he’s not gotten this far! And it’s still fun and he still wants to keep going! It’s freaking him the FUCK out cause it’s going WELL. He knows the other shoe is gonna drop at some point cause it always does, either he loses interest or people can’t handle him, and he hasn’t lost interest at ALL, so that means the second option.
Chad says he can’t promise not to hurt Herm ever again. He knows he’s a lot to deal with. He knows he’s got anger issues. But shit, if they become boyfriends that means something deeper. And with how things are going, he’s hate to be too much for Herm too. And Herm is quiet and he gently cups Chad’s face in his hand and has him look. And Herm looks so sad but also..happy. Herm says if Chad wants to wait, they can wait. He didn’t mean to assume. But he likes Chad a lot. He’s dealt with a lot of Chad’s behavior, both negative but also positive. Dating Chad has shown him how kind and thoughtful he can be. And he knows Chad isn’t great with emotions, but he’s made Herm feel very happy by just..being himself, if that’s confident or angry Chad to gentler or nervous Chad. They’re all him. And he wants to be with Chad. If Chad is worried about hurting him, they can work on this stuff together, just like how Chad has helped with his confidence.
Chad is quiet before grumbling Herm is “being all cute and shit”. Herm can’t help but laugh a little. Chad can’t help’s but smile too, and he asks Herm if he wants the privilege of being his boyfriend, and Herm laughs more. Herm says he would VERY much like the privilege of being Chad’s boyfriend. They’re both happy and Chad asks if he can kiss Herm. This makes Herm go red and he stammers he’s never kissed anyone before. Chad says “wow that’s cute. Sad, but cute.” Herm is about to tell Chad to stop teasing him but Chad says “it just means people are stupid, and I get to be the first.”. Herm is even redder at that. So he nods nervously. Chad tells him to relax and Herm TRIES, squeezing his eyes shut.
And when Herm feels Chad’s lips on his, his eyes fly open. His lips are soft and warm. Very warm indeed. Chad pulls away and smirks a little, saying he’s got a lot to teach since he didn’t even kiss him back, but then Herm pulls him back in and kisses him. It’s awkward and Chad is like “hey! Off! You’re doing it wrong!” before showing Herm how to properly do it. The..patrons nearby watch awkwardly watching two grown men make out as the car slowly fills with steam.
The first time they get freaky is a little while later. Chad is very experienced but he doesn’t want to overwhelm Herm. Herm on the other hand is worried Chad isn’t gonna be impressed since he’s a virgin, though he’s done things by himself so he isn’t completely uninformed. There’s tons of teases and touches from Chad that get Herm worked up just thinking about it. There’s moments that get Chad worked up too, thinking about Herm smiling and telling Chad he’s beautiful, or complimenting how cool he is, or even the time Herm just picked him up and princess carried him after a rain storm and Chad complained about the puddles on the ground. Until they go clubbing with the team. They’re both not drunk but they are looser and they decide to dance together. Chad grins and gets a mischievous thought and he tells Herm he’s gonna teach Herm to grind. Herm is like “what?” before Chad has Herm press himself against his back and have his hand on his hips. Chad then tells Herm to follow his lead and move to the music.
And hoo boy, Herm didn’t realize how sensual this was. He’s seen prism and Chad jokingly do it before for fun (prism in the back) but geez this is making him feel hot. And it’s not Chad doing it. Heck they didn’t realize they’re in their underwear until Herm falls backwards on Chad’s bed (which Herm has slept in a few times by now). And Chad is about to tease when he has to do a double take when he sees Herm’s bulge. It’s HUGE. And he immediately pulls Herm’s boxers off and Herm squeaks as Chad sees how big Herm REALLY is.
