Liminal Places, Liminal Spaces

I feel I differ from the general consensus on the Backrooms movie. I didn't like it. It was beautifully shot and captured the essence of the rooms with the set so well, but I left feeling like that's the only thing it did well. The plot felt very disjointed to me, like two different movies stitched together in the middle. I think the theme it was trying to communicate was a great one to explore with the Backrooms, it ultimately fell flat for me because of how it almost felt like the movie was just jumping around. I also didn't find it scary or uncomfortable like I hear a lot of people saying. The horror is heavily dependent on the eerie vibes of the Backrooms which I'm sure worked very well for others, but it just didn't land with me. Otherwise I'd say there's one or two tense sequences that I didn't find very frightening either. If anything, I found myself bored.

i just saw the backrooms today and was kind underwhelmed. The set/atmosphere/aesthetics of it were definitely fantastic but i actually found it to be kind of an average-to-fine shaky-cam style horror in a beautifully captured space. It very lightly touched on some ideas i thought were really interesting but didn't carry them through. But the backrooms is the kind of thing that everyone is going to look at differently so there was no way of pleasing everyone. Some the backrooms tropes it leaned on are some of the ones i find least compelling, so I just wasn't the audience. Arguably their success in portraying the rooms themselves is going to be one of the biggest points of appeal, and they achieved that to be sure.
