CONNECTED GENERATIONS

I’ve been thinking recently about the very real and definite line in the sand that separates what devides modern generations from the old.

I am a Gen X’r

I grew up witnessing the birth of modern technology. Computers, mobile phones, a plethora of changing media technologies and then….the internet. I feel blessed to have been born in the late 70’s as a real crossover point happened. But I noticed a subtle change in attitudes between those generations of old and the ones subsequent to me. Millenials, Zoomers, Alpha. You see, you are all my people. You get me. You want the world to be what we want it to be! Respect and acceptance for all.

Not once will you hear refer to you as “sonnie boy” or some other deeply patronising tone. Besides, I wouldn’t assume your gender 😉

See the point I’m making? My boomer parents made racist remarks sometimes. Made bigoted remarks too. Which made it really hard for me to grow as a person with a colourful sexuality.

When my boss said that thing about me getting back up, despite life, despite cruel words and hate, this is what I thought.

Yes maybe i will go out at some point. But on my terms. Why? Because fuck you that’s why.

Something written in one of my weaker moments for a friend. I’ve had a questionable life. Lots of things happened to me that I didn’t realise were bad until my therapists tell me they feel physically sick 🤣

Oh well. Atleast that explains my temporate and rationale when it comes to my experience and cynicism in life.

My friend (and boss) said he was proud of me because despite everything I’ve been through. How I repeatedly get my legs kicked out from under me, I spitefully…keep getting back up.
