It was hard to say no to him, especially when he actually sounded sincere, albeit like he’d been partying for a little while longer than she had been. She walked over to the bar with him and nodded to the bartender, flashing her fake - she wouldn’t turn 21 for a few more days. “Do a shot with me,” Marley said simply, ordering two tequila shots, “I know I need one.” 

Ryder smiled when she agreed to get a drink with him. Part of him really wanted to fix their friendship, and this felt like the tiniest first baby step towards potentially, maybe, making that happen. They were friends before everything went downhill, and he’d eventually like to get back to that. Even if it took another five years. “Shots are good with me.” He agreed easily, happy to go with the flow and take whatever interaction Marley was willing to give him. It had to be better than a cold shoulder. “Listen...” He started speaking, immediately realising it was a bad idea as soon as he opened his mouth. But he was too drunk to stop himself now. “About those texts the other night... I lied, I wasn’t talking about those other kids.” He trailed off, hoping she got the gist of what he was saying. If she didn’t, well, he was probably drunk enough by now to say it to her face.
