bio: the trevelyans, despite originating from antiva, are one of the most prominent noble families of ostwick. because of their strong ties to the chantry, the family does not hesitate to send their children to the circle when they discover the gift of magic. luca felt betrayed when he was sent away at just 12 years old, believing his parents didn't love him anymore. he left before reconciling with his mother, who he was extremely close with. growing up with his father's strong disdain for magic and fearmongering from the templars caused luca to develop a fear of his own magical abilities. luca's mother passes away from illness before he has a chance to reconcile, intensifying the guilt, fear, and nightmares he already suffered with. in his anger and grief, he injures his sister cecilia in an outburst, causing him to feel even more guilt. before he was even considered to do his harrowing, he begs the templars to make him tranquil, believing himself to be a danger to himself and others, and so won't have to further deal with his pain and nightmares. they happily obliged, and luca was, in his point of view, finally free. when kirkwall's circle rebelled, ostwick quickly followed suit, and luca was forced to join the rebels for his own survival. he eventually joins the senior enchanters at the divine conclave as an unbiased voice. when the anchor is accidentally fused with luca's hand, his severed connection with the fade was restored, curing him of his tranquility. after being tranquil for a decade, luca must relearn how to live, how to feel, and how to be a leader, as he's thrust into reverence as the only hope to save thedas.

bio: the complete opposite of the duty-bound anastasia, cecilia was rambunctious and rebellious, and much preferred to explore and cause trouble rather than be forced into a stuffy confines of nobility. at 12 years old, cecilia's parents had discovered her magic, and had her sent off to the circle immediately to preserve the family reputation. her free spirit despised the strict and rigid environment, and it only served to amplify her disdain for authority. she was alone at the ostwick circle for years before luca and claudia arrived, and cecilia was overjoyed and wildly protective of the both of them, wanting to shield the two from the worst the circle had to offer. despite her efforts, however, luca still succumbed to his fear of magic. when she received word that their mother had passed, cecilia tries to keep the news from luca, knowing he would take the news especially hard. but she accidentally slips up and he discovers it anyway. in his anger towards himself for not reconciling with his mother, anger towards his father for sending him away, and anger towards cecilia for hiding this news from him, luca accidentally burns cecilia's face in his outburst. the horror and guilt he felt serves as one of the main catalysts for luca's decision to make himself tranquil, and cecilia blames herself for not protecting him better. when the circle's rebelled, cecilia enthusiastically joined, becoming a notable figure in the rebellion. she earns the nickname "the firebrand" after the scar on her face, serving as a symbol of what happens when mages are ruled over with fear. when the conclave explodes, cecilia and claudia both believe that luca had perished alongside the senior enchanters. she withdraws from the rebellion with claudia, going into hiding to keep her safe. they don't emerge until much later, when they hear rumors about an inquisition being led by a fellow trevelyan.

bio: growing up, leo was a lot more timid than his older siblings, but is also easily frustrated in jealous. he didn't have the responsibilities that ana did, nor the favouritism his younger siblings had (with valentina favouring luca, and emilio favouring claudia). he cares about his family, but frequently isolated himself and lashed out due to feeling forgotten. he has a more negative view towards magic, not because he dislikes his mage siblings, but because the existence of their magic tore the family apart. with ana closed off and buried under responsibility, and cecilia and luca gone to the circle, leo only had claudia to play and spend time with. he would care for her when emilio or ana couldn't. when claudia also discovers her magical abilities, leo desperately tries to hide her from the templars to no avail. effectively alone now, leo enlists in the templars as soon as he turns 18, in a desperate attempt to find purpose in his life (and a small, innate hope that it would let him see his siblings again). he has no interest in the mage-templar war when it erupts, believing his mage siblings to have all perished in the rebellion already, and decides to defect from the templars shortly after. knowing his father would never accept a chantry deserter back into the family, leo joins the inquisition instead, where he finally reunites with his brother luca for the first time in a decade.

bio: claudia, sweet and naive as she is, was always the most spoiled of the trevelyan siblings and a daddy's girl. she always looked up to her older siblings, but was too young to really know cecilia before she was taken to the circle. she was especially close with luca when she was really young, and cried when he was taken away. for the rest of her childhood, claudia and leonardo only really had each other, and were inseparable. when it's revealed that claudia is also a mage, emilio is furious that another one of his children has been "tainted". claudia quickly goes from the fatherly favourite to shunned by the one she thought loved her most. the family grieves losing another child to the circle, but claudia isn't as upset, knowing she has luca and cecilia there with her. she seeks luca out as soon as she arrives, and is distraught when she discovers he's already been made tranquil, and never got to say goodbye to the "real" luca. unlike ceclia, who stayed by tranquil luca's side out of feeling guilt and obligation, claudia was too heartbroken to be near him much during their time at the circle. also unlike her older sister, she was never a fighter, but was forced to rebel with the other mages when the circles dissolved. when her and cecilia believe that luca perished at the conclave, they both flee the war and go into hiding, and only resurface when they hear rumors of the war ending thanks to the inquisition.
