My freshman year of college I was walking around campus when a very friendly looking girl waved at me. I’m awkward, so of course I waved back. The next week, the same thing.

This began the weirdest saga of my life.

For the next two years, we greeted each other as old friends every time we came across the other. She knew my name (somehow?), I never could figure hers out and it was WAY too late to ask. I just pretended I knew who she was and why she knew me.

Finally, I joined the honors program and entered my classes for my thesis. Who should be in this class but mystery girl! I was horrified. I wouldn’t be able to pass it off anymore.

First day of class we are all sitting there chatting and she greets me by name, again. I had finally learned her name from attendance, thank God. Someone asks, finally, “oh, so do you two know each other? Where’d you meet?”

Silence.

I stare at her. She stares at me. Finally she breaks down wailing. “I don’t know! I don’t know, okay, we’ve just been waving at each other for two years and it was too late to ask!”

Fact 1. In the books, Boromir is the one who awakens the Watcher in the Water outside the gates of Moria. He throws a stone at the lake in frustration, waking the monster.

 But in the Peter Jackson films, Merry and Pippin are the one who wake the Watcher, by skipping stones on the lake in boredom. 

Fact 2. Because of this, you could argue that waking the Watcher is Boromir’s fault in the books, but isn’t his fault at all in the films. I DISAGREE because–

Fact 3. In the films, Aragorn and Boromir divided up the Hobbit Responsibilities™—- Aragorn always looks after Frodo and Sam, while Boromir always looks after Merry and Pippin. 

Fact 4: One  of the few exceptions is when, outside of the Gates of Moria, Aragorn is the one who has to stop Merry and Pippin from skipping stones on the lake. (”Do not disturb the water.”)

Fact 3. But we see Boromir right next to them a moment later– implying that Boromir WAS watching Merry and Pippin, and saw what they were doing. He just didn’t bother to stop them.

In the wide shots you could even see him sitting on the shore with Gimli, watching Merry and Pippin.

Fact 4: Earlier, when Merry and Pippin tackled Boromir to the ground for fun, Aragorn tried to stop them (’”gentlemen, that’s enough!”) But Boromir was totally fine with letting them play.

Conclusion: 

Film!Boromir is partially responsible for waking the Watcher in the Water because he saw Merry and Pippin skipping stones…… and probably understood that they were on a stealth mission and letting the hobbits loudly skip stones was a bad idea…..

Please tag your AI generated posts as unreality or the name of the generator you're using. The distorted faces/backgrounds/objects can be fun to look at and joke on but they aren't schizophrenia/psychosis friendly and can cause a major problem to anyone who is triggered by seeing things like that. Courtesy should be taken to make sure the people who want to see it can, and the ones who don't won't have to panic at a new AI trend making them have an episode.

As much as we all try to curate experiences, and sometimes tagging doesn't work, it should be noted that, at least putting the tags there is a sign that you've thought about others potentially being put at risk for a reblog or post. It's understood that sometimes it's forgotten and that's okay, but please respond and listen to others when they ask to tag AI generated posts and reblogs.
