"Yer brain's mean but your bones ain't."

The bird croons at Rosemary, sleepy. She doesn’t bother to find a perch elsewhere than Jon’s shoulder, already dozing back off.

“Coffee. Needed something warm to drink.” Jonathan avoids saying how it’s just a little bit spiked- it’ll help him SLEEP later. He looks down at her. “Do you want anything to drink? We can lay on the couch if you’d like.”

Such a cute bird, Rosemary thought to herself. Another sleepy child of Jon’s.

One could say Jon had been woken up by the screaming, but that’d mean he actually got any sleep that night. No, he’s simply upstairs as a brief break in his experiments- his subjects are too exhausted to keep going, so he’s forced to rest too as they sleep uneasy. Rosemary’s voice makes him look up from his drink. He gives her a small smile, and pats the seat next to him.

“Craw did, you spooked her bad. Are you alright, lil’ hroo?”

She tiredly plotted herself onto the seat next to him. Rosie practically had to stop herself from just laying her head down. The girl started fiddling with the ends of her sleeves. Keeping her hands busy helped her stay awake.

This was the third night in the row Rosemary woke up to the sounds of her own screaming. It was all because of that historical fiction she watched the other day.....It was one about the witch trials. History fascinates her, but the thought of being in history terrifies her.

She headed downstairs, towards the kitchen to make herself something soothing to drink. Oh......Pa was awake.
