It’s the How I Met Your Mother Effect. If an ending betrays the viewers and the story badly enough, it actively cancels out the cultural influence of the show. It decreases the rewatch value and diminishes the fondness and relatability of earlier seasons. 

sometimes i think about how i’m closer to thirty than i am twenty. sometimes i think about how being a hopeless romantic is one of the most useless and devestating parts of me. sometimes i think about how i still let it consume me. sometimes i think about how much i hate small talk. how often i want to get to the heart of it all while wresting the thought that my feelings run deeper than most. like when i’m five steps ahead. like when i want to build & grow with someone because i am too old and tired to chase or play games. i’d rather be alone than lonely in something that stays at surface level.
