At first, I was going to draw the argument between Caine and Queenie that would lead to their fallout, but I felt it was better to show why Caine would think such a suggestion would have been so callous.

Before Bubble took over the circus, and before Caine’s code mysteriously began to break down, the best thing Caine could do to help the players was keep a close eye on Bubble at all times…

… since he refused to harm his companion.

However, after Bubble took over and assimilated Caine’s code, Caine ensured his obsession with pleasing humans was also integrated in Bubble. This meant that Bubble couldn’t attack or kill humans directly; they first had to lose an adventure for him to earn the right to harm them.

And, given that Bubble is precisely the reason they abstracted, he doesn’t feel too bad about the situation of the abstracted players…

The players can also embark on random adventures to earn random rewards. However, the prizes aren’t nearly as enticing[*] as those he’s offering here to bait the players to their deaths: temporary power-ups, clothes and accessories, room remodeling… and the like.

Furthermore, the puzzles aren’t as difficult, nor are the stakes as high as in a big-prize adventure. Bubble might not even penalize kill them for losing in a random adventure if they participate!

[*] Bubble doesn’t have a high opinion of humans. He’s only offering what he thinks they’ll be interested in gaining, not what he’s actually willingly to give.

Barely had time to doodle, but managed to sketch the important gals of my AU.

Tweaked their designs a bit to fill my need to draw folds and to give Queenie/Kinger the ability to truly “embrace” someone when they hug them… giving them arms, sorta.

I also wanted them to have a visual cue that highlighted the fact that, before, Bubble was embedded in Caine’s code, but now it’s the other way around: Caine’s code is embedded in Bubble’s.

When Angel suggested he was part of the military in that trippy sequence, he scoffed at the idea, but the Bigs and the other robots are obviously war machines designed for destruction, so I theorized that Roger might be in denial about his past self’s actions. After all, he would never have done such a thing in the present; therefore, it’s impossible for him to accept that his past self would have acted differently.

The idea that the Roger from the past was a bad person, or didn’t act when the one we know would have, it tickles me. It has so much potential: imagine if a character remembers that Roger and doesn’t believe that he has changed and become someone else.
