Brook stealing curry powder to make his horrible food taste a tiny bit better really gets to me, because there's something so human about that. Something so relatable too, especially because rn I'm very broke and spices are my saviours, because you can make cheap food taste so much better as long as you have something to add flavour
Which seems so dumb to say because I'm obviously nowhere near being genuinely poor, but still, financial insecurity is stressful and being able to still eat tasty food makes it so much better. Something like curry powder is so valuable for being able to still enjoy life
The obvious thing would have been to have him steal food, because that's what makes intuitive sense: surely just getting nutrition is the most important thing. But the fact that he steals curry powder makes me feel like Oda gets it, you know?
It's like his makeshift violin, you need joy to survive. The curry powder is joy
And the way it became his favourite food... ;-; Even at age 90 he still loves curry
Come and go out my mind!
will wood has been on my mind a lot. so has brook. the obvious choice is to link this stupid skeleton to 2econd 2ight 2eer, right?
I think Oda introduced Shuri because he plans on having the Straw Hats disband at the end of the series (just like the Roger Pirates did) and wanted to give Brook an actual family that he could return home to once the crew all go their separate ways.
"What about Laboon?!" I hear you cry.
Yes the whale is valid.
Yes the whale is family.
Yes the whale is beloved by all.
However, he is not human.
Brook needs that same human connection that he currently has with the Straw Hats or else he's just going to end up as a different kind of lonely.
Crocus is there, sure, but for how much longer? He's old as dirt and even if he has a crazy long One Piece lifespan it won't matter if the Yomi Yomi no Mi does make the user semi-immortal.
Now it hasn't been confirmed if the fruit stops a person dying from old age, but I think it's safe to presume for now that it does and can therefore allow the user to potentially live forever as long as they avoid any fatal injury or disease.
Here's what I'm thinking with Shuri:
The God's Knights are granted immortality by Imu through his covenant ability, yes?
Well, If covenant can exist independently from the fruit user then theoretically we could end up with a couple of immortals running around the place once Imu is dead and gone.
We do already have proof of devil fuits powers still working despite the user being dead.
Big Mom's Homies are still around which means the effects of the Soru Soru no Mi still persist despite it's user being seemingly dead.
Now you could say the opposite is true and the Homies are actually proof Big Mom survived the lava bath somehow, but that's a whole other can of worms that I don't wanna get into right now.
Stepping away from One Piece for a sec I'd like to just take a moment here to talk about my actual number one manga of all time...
(Trust me this is going to loop back I promise)
So in FMA there's these semi-immortal beings called Homunculus that were created by the main villain Father to do his bidding.
Each of them possesses a philosopher's stone which is basically a magical rock created by combining water (35 L), carbon (20 kg), ammonia (4 L), lime (1.5 kg) etc.
The stone acts as their heart and is the source of their power so in order to defeat them you basically have to either destroy their stone or make them use the stone enough times so that its power is drained like a battery.
So how does this relate to One Piece?
Check it:
That's a heart.
Made of metal.
A fullmetal heart.
Goda.
Zoro theorises that smashing the heart (philosopher's stone) will turn the Gods Knights (homunculus) normal again which basically just means they will lose their immortality.
Based on Sommers reaction we can assume that Zoro is actually being big brain here. It also implies to me that the heart is what's keeping them alive, not Imu.
Imu is the one who can grant them their power and also the one who can take it away, but I'm willing to bet that the heart would still continue to beat even if Imu were to die from a fatal head injury after accidentally falling down the stairs.
The only real issue we have is Imu's ability to take control of those who are in covenants, but even that has been shown to be something that can be broken.
This is all very hard to follow so let me just get to the point.
What I'm getting at here is that this backstory and the character of Shuri is a classic Oda late game retcon that has come about as a result of his plan to have the Straw Hats eventually part ways as he wants to make sure readers are happy with the life each member has once the story is over.
I would bet Oda initially didn't plan on delving into Brooks or any of the Straw Hats past this late into the story but changed his mind as he starts to think more about how he wants each of their journeys to end now that we're in the final saga.
He may have felt that just Laboon wasn't going to be enough for Brook fans and so he decided to give him an immortal surrogate daughter so that the crew and readers can rest assured that their punny musical afro skeleton isn't going to end up a one man band again.
Whatever Oda does decide to do is fine with me as long as Brook is happy in the end.
If Brook is happy, I am happy.
I keep drawing this fucking au, oh my god
THERE’S MORE THO, I HAVENT EVEN SHOWN YORKI
THIS AU IS SO STUPID, ANY CHANCE I GET IM DRAWING IT AND I WAS YAPPING TO MY FRIEND ABT IT YESTERDAY, I NEED TO BE STOPPED
LET ME GO BACK TO THE MERMAIDS PLEASE, THIS HAS TAKEN OVER MY LIFE
oh btw the scar isn’t there , that was intentional but I might put it back. sorry Brook

My first Fishbones sketch
At first I wasn't finding a good idea so decided to start with something simple, then I was veeery happy once I figured out how I could do Jinbe (I swear each time I draw him I become a little more obsessed with him, maybe I would try another one soon)
Once I start to find ideas for a ship it's over for me
Little headcanon: Jinbe likes to listen to Brook's violin just as much as Laboon (he's a whale shark fish type) and finds it mesmerizing the way Brook also seen to feel the music. I can imagine Jinbe making sounds/music in the water and inspiring Brook to write songs (beach date!)
Maybe a private concert 🤭
Is this some kind of code for something?
This one is for @frogfromfunkytown as a thank you for all the beautiful drawings and making me like this pair a lot more 😊
Happy pride month 💖
you know in that bit after thriller bark but before sabaody when they have to rescue hatchan from duval?
and he reveals his face to be sanji's bounty poster & brook just absolutely loses it lmao like he is keeled over, cracking up to the point he can't breathe
I love this scene for a multitude of reasons which I will explain below:
First of all, it's funny as fuck lmao. Genuinely 10/10 writing, I feared Oda peaked with this /j
Considering everything Brook has been through, you know just absolute despair and loneliness for 50 years, the fact that this is the first thing he sees after joining the crew? Impeccable, I must say. The man probably hadn't really laughed for fifty years and then he's genuinely dying from laughter like a day after joining the Strawhats, like, I love that for him <333
Plus, Sanji didn't want Brook to join in the first place! Like Nami didn't either, to be fair, but it's hilarious that he's being laughed at by this skeleton that he didn't want on his crew originally
But it's clear that Sanji has very much accepted Brook into this family based on the way he's reprimanding him the same way he would with Luffy lmao; real friends laugh and yell at each other like there's no tomorrow
Just rewatched the scene so this doesn't really count, but I misremembered Sanji saying "I'm going to kill you!" to Brook, which means that Brook was laughing so hard he couldn't even make an "I'm already dead" joke, which just shows how ridiculous this whole scene is
anyway, this is my formal petition for there to be more brook & sanji scenes bc they're hilarious together
Im getting into one piece and I really wanted to draw the character that got me into it :)
Brook is such a goofy guy I CAN’T wait to get to him (I just started so I’ve got a while)

Thinking about Brook and his infatuation(?) with bones and skeletons pre-death... like YEAH yeah yeah that's probably just weird foreshadowing or whatever but he. He really liked singing about bones I dunno. He has a whole thing about bones. Perhaps he liked the idea of bones/skeletons but was scared of them? Or maybe he liked bones/skeletons but the idea of the undead scared him (And maybe saw the skeleton in the mirror as an "undead" of sorts for a bit before he got used to it as his own reflection. Maybe he saw himself as an "undead" of sorts due to his appearance. Either way it frightened him). Probably the latter 🤷♀️
Things I didn’t post before.
I really really really like fauns. I have more fauns coming, I’ve just been in an art block. Like I have ideas , I just can’t draw rn. It’s so annoying. The amount of drawings I’ve trashed is disgusting, I’m dying to draw something decent.
Idk if any of you know this but I’m a finger artist, I draw with my fingers on my shit phone. I don’t recommend it.
he keeps calling the green room the bone zone but he means it's stocked with milk 💀 yohohoho~
Op chap 1183 spoilers ‼️⚠️
I think I’m getting even more addicted to this guy
Bonus one piece oc❗️💕
