They were on the border of Kusagakure and Iwa, set up away from the front lines of the war. It wasnât hard to figure out who they would be after - Konoha had been fighting a lost war for months now, and a Iwa daimyo had seen fit to claim the war was over, and an Iwa celebration could begin. Of course a message had to be sent.
Anko wondered if the man realized what he had wrought upon himself, if he had any idea of what would be coming. Did he expect this - child soldiers sent in the night to take his legacy from him?
She wondered if it was stupid to do this, to take something so precious from a man so powerful, and give him time to plot his revenge before coming back to kill him.
âWhat will you do if his daughter is cute?â She asked Hatake as their group disbands, the other shinobi separating to grab their things. âIf she cries and asks you to spare her. Will you do it?â
Anko slid from the crate, and turned to look at him. âI bet you will. I bet youâll hesitate and botch the whole thing.â
The team began to disband to rest for the mission the next day. Their Commander had finished going over the rules and gave them one last piece of advice.Â
(âDonât fuck up.â)Â
Kakashi stood up straight from his previous slouched position. Although his expression was as blank as ever, he was rather against the idea of killing a young girl just because her father was the Iwa Daimyo. It seemed incredibly unfair that she had to perish simply due to the fact that she shared the same blood as their enemy. But she is our enemy, an inner voice challenged. This is our mission. He pushed the thought away and slowly exhaled as he bent down to grab his things.
It wasnât until he heard Anko speak that he turned towards her, not letting his eyes betray the slight irritation he was feeling at this doubt of his abilities. âDonât pretend to understand me, Anko-san,â was all the answer he provided before he began to walk back to his tent.
However, as he did, he couldnât help but think back on the girlâs words. He wished he could hesitate; he wished that he didnât have to take someone elseâs life. After all the death that heâs seen already, he didnât want to be a part of another. But he couldnât think like that.
Doing so would just be too human.
