My favorite Ninjago character is Jay, he's such a great character and most of my posts/reblogs will be about him!
Personally, I've been writing for over 4 years, writing mostly angst and platonic relationships! I love all kinds of fandoms, and lately Ninjago has become a huge part of my life once again. My favorite characters are the ones who are fun and goofy, yet carry so, so much trauma (unsurprisingly, Jay Walker is one of them).

Jay always wore bright socks. His parents gave him some for his birthday, and he wore them with joy. He wore them mismatched with colorful shoes, always beaming whenever someone mentioned them. As a Ninja, everyone knew that those vibrant socks on the floor were his. Nya, whenever she was out shopping, would buy him more, some with patterns, like lightning bolts and rubber ducks.
Jay always wore bright socks, yet he knew he wouldn’t wear this pair again. His socks were soaked red with blood, squishing as he walked through the battlefield.
Alright now I have the brainpower to elaborate on this lol.
I think Wu would have to be the Taskmaster, and be utterly disappointed with some of the Ninja's attempts at completing the tasks. Totally giving off "I taught you better" vibes.
Lloyd would be an expert in the prize category, somehow he always brings in the strangest and oddest object that gets incredible responses. He's very resourceful.
Jay doesn't score well in most tasks, but when he does, it's because he found the oddest, craziest loophole or solution that no one could account for. The fine print in the tasks is terrified of him. His prize tasks are always accompanied with a long story related to what he brought in.
Zane always tries to find logical solutions to tasks, but alas, there aren't many, leaving him often confused as to why he is even doing this. When it comes to drama tasks or performative/acting tasks, he's an expert though. His dancing and singing come very handy.
Cole usually tries to strongarm the tasks, trusting his own body and mind more than the tools provided. It usually takes him some time to come up with solutions, but when he does, he always succeeds.
Kai always bothers the Taskmaster's assistant. Always. He comes up with quick solutions that don't always work, but when it comes to timed tasks he's usually the most efficient. He also, like another popular contestant, really wants to get on the Taskmaster House roof for some reason.
Nya isn't afraid to get dirty, and will jump headfirst into any task, no matter how strange. She finds a good balance in doing well in most kinds of tasks, working well with her mind and body, but always struggles to come up with dramas. Fiction isn't her wheelhouse. She always has the best comebacks to Wu's responses, too.

My current AU that I’ve been thinking a lot about… (sort of a mix between the show and the Ninjago movie)
Jay is raised by Cliff Gordon, and lives in the pinnacle of society; fancy galas, days spent filming movies and ads, and is Ninjago’s sweetheart. His father encourages him to be a great actor, and gives him plenty of opportunities to get there. Jay plays the part, but never fully feels like that’s where he belongs.
At fifteen, he’s sent to the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts. He dreads learning how to dance, as it’s only just for one acting gig and doesn’t see himself dancing otherwise. Yet everything changes when he meets Cole, another kid who doesn’t want to be there, who’s running from something Jay doesn’t know. The two become fast friends, and even after Cole leaves the school (he didn’t even last two days), they continue to write letters to one another. They found familiarity in feeling like they didn’t belong, like their lives are built around their fathers wishes’, and being able to be honest and open with one another.
Cole eventually moves back to Ninjago, joining a high school Jay has never been to, and the two become closer and closer. Cliff is glad that Jay finally found a friend, and Jay is more than happy that someone finally sees him as something other than a celebrity.
Jay’s life, other than the presence of Cole, becomes more chaotic. He joins the Starfarer franchise as Fritz Donegan’s son, and with it came busier schedules, more convention appearances, and too much pressure to be perfect. He’s always in the limelight. Jay hates it.
At seventeen, an older man comes to his mansion door, calling himself Wu. He tells Jay of the life Jay’s mother lived, and that the same powers lived inside Jay. He offers another life, one built to protect, to save, to help. It’s all too tempting, and Jay happily accepts.
Then he becomes Blue, an anonymous ninja who joined the Secret Ninja Force. He’s joined by Green, Red, Black, White, and Gray. Together, they save Ninjago from all sorts of threats. Jay loves every moment of it. (and, Cole is one of his teammates too, which Jay is overjoyed about)
Sure, it means his life is busier. It means his days are full of acting, and his nights full of training and fighting, but the Ninja life is one he enjoys, so he would happily live in the crazy.
But when the Secret Ninja all agree that they should reveal their identities to one another, Jay panics. He loves the anonymity. He loves hiding behind a mask and not having to be Jay Gordon. He can be normal, have friends without signing autographs, and be able to talk about something other than the movies he was in. If his mask comes off, if Blue falls away, everything would change. No one would see him the same way, and his freedom would be gone.
Jay isn’t sure if he can risk it. But trust is important to the Ninja, and Jay doesn’t want to break it. He’s left between a rock and a hard place, and doesn’t know how to get out.
