Another quiet morning in London—cold but bright winter sun, the sound of heels on the pavement, a bike whizzes past wheels purring, it’s the weekend, and the bakery is opening their awnings below our window with a long wooden pole. Somewhere someone shouts unintelligibly over the sound of the river rushing, the clock tower is striking but I miss the first toll so I can’t pin down the time and I don’t mind. Soon, the coffee shop round the corner will unlock their little celadon door and J will dash in, on a secret venture to surprise me with pastry and hot black coffee
