it is so rare that i follow any series from beginning to end. however, i have made time between february and last night to tune in to each 30-60 minute episode that comprises this incredible, scripted, online showcase – GIANTS.

if you have been following my timeline closely, you’ll see that i have shared each of the episodes leading up to this emotionally packed season finale. what creator/writer JAMES BLAND has woven together is the visual experience of how it looks & feels to be a young black creative trying to find his or her way in the free world. 

i messaged several of my friends last night after watching this finale to share with them that i cried real tears for the first time in a long time as i sat for an hour mesmerized by this storyline. what i love and appreciate so much about this finale is the fact that we finally get introduced to the backstory that illustrates how melachi became friends with journee and ade’. we get to see journee finally land on her feet, as ade’ receives a powerful response from quasi, as well. there’s so much fresh air breathed into the realities of everyday life as you watch these characters laugh, cry, search for intimacy, heal from heartache and struggle to carve a comfortable piece of life for themselves.

the acting alone is deserving of praise. what journee (vanessa baden) does in the living room/date scene between she and melachi is a pure stand out amongst this season finale. she is definitely one that the industry needs to be watching. i am waiting patiently for GIANTS to be picked up by HBO so it can air on sunday nights next summer 2019 after INSECURE. both shows are very much indicative of our challenges and triumphs as young people of color. i am truly impressed, and had to share this recent release with you.
