      natasha  was  offended  by  the  confusion  that  had  taken  place  in  the  front  hall,  by  her  father’s  uneasiness,  and  by  the  unnatural  tone  of  the  princess,  who,  as  it  seemed  to  natasha,  was  doing  her  a  favor  by  receiving  her.  and  therefore  she  found  everything  disagreeable.  she  did  not  like  princess  marya.  she  found  her  very  plain,  affected,  and  dry.  natasha  suddenly  shrank  morally  and  involuntarily  adopted  such  a  casual  tone  that  it  made  her  still  more  repellent  to  princess  marya.

      as  the  days  go  on,  the  empty  space  would  become  more  bearable.  but  life  without  her  dearest  friend,  her  dear  sister,  would  be  simple.  without  the  minuscule  but  many  hardships  of  wealthy  girls  in  their  positions  face  or  the  overwhelming  joys  of  sisters  so  close  as  they  are,  that  is  all  that  life  would  be.  simple.  boring.  as  the  carriage  that  holds  her  sweet  sonya  progresses  farther  away,  all  that  natasha  can  feel  is  regret.  regret  for  replacing  one  dear  introvert  for  another.  regret  for  having  to  leave  her  family  behind  for  her  one  beloved     (     though  beloved  he  is     ).     this  regret  festers  and  moves  through  her  body.  it  makes  her  eyes  sting  and  her  chest  hot.  her  cheeks  burn.  her  feet  won’t  move.  the  most  natasha  can  manage  is  a  weak  wave,  long  after  her  sister  has  gone  from  view.  simple,  she  thinks.  life  will  be  simple.
