I died last night. Without telling my best friend that I was hopelessly in love with him. Without telling my father that I forgave him for being the first man to break my heart. Without thanking my mother for loving me; and for teaching me how to. Without trying sushi. Without learning to paint. Without jumping off the diving board. Without traveling; really traveling; grabbing the first free flight and waking up in a new land with a new life. Without laying under the stars in the middle of the street like they did in the Notebook. Without having sex on the beach. Without late night skinny dipping. Without buying a puppy. Without taking a road trip. Without writing a book. I died last night. With regrets.

If you want 2016 to be your year, don’t sit on the couch and wait for it. Go out. Fucking make a change. Smile more. Be excited. Do new things. Clean your room. Throw away what you’ve been cluttering. Unfollow negative people on social media. Go to bed early. Wake up early. Kick ass. Every damn day

If you allow people to make more withdrawals than deposits in your life, you will soon be in the negative. Know when to close the account.

If you’re not losing friends then you’re not growing up.

Ever loved someone so much, you would do anything for them? Yeah, well, make that someone yourself and do whatever the hell you want.

Cut the poison out of your life. No matter what - or whom - it may be.

This goes out to all of the people who have been broken but have been strong enough to let go. For the people who have hurt so badly that they felt they could never love again, but kept their head up. For those who feel like going back to their old lover would put all the pieces back where they belong and everything would fit, but accept the cold hard truth instead. For the people that learn from their mistakes and never stop moving forward, even when they take two steps back. For the people that wish loneliness wasn’t a part of them, but put up with it anyhow. For the people that are okay with taking up all of the room in the bed, even if sometimes it feels a little empty. For the people who wake up in the morning with no missed calls, but smile anyway. For the people that periodically miss the past, but are so much more excited for the future. For the people that have wounds still healing. For the people that have so much tied to their past relationship, but break those chains to start fresh. For the people that want to look back so badly, but focus on the road ahead. For the people that pick up the phone so tempted to call, but keep their dignity in tact instead. For the people that never wanted to let go, but had to. For the people that still believe in love even after all of the hurt their heart has endured. For all the people that gave up not because they were weak, but because most times it’s better just to let go.

Just because you miss someone, it doesn’t mean you should go back to them. Sometimes you have to just keep missing them until you wake up one morning and realise that you don’t anymore.

And one day, your name didn’t make me smile anymore.
