Great North American License Plate Showdown

Nunavut!

Casting 1,400 votes in the final round, the people have spoken: the greatest license plate in North America is Nunavut's! Though Maine was a beloved plate, its chickadee and pines couldn't hold up against Nunavut's polar bear and aurora. Nunavut also boasts the only license plate in the contest to feature text written in an indigenous North American language.

Thank you to everyone who voted, commented, and shared the polls around. When I started my own version of this nearly two years ago, I worried no one would be interested, so it's gratifying to see other people put thought into the aesthetics of ordinary objects we mostly ignore in our day-to-day lives. Hopefully the future brings even better designs to our plates!

the western league was a pretty solid rout, with nunavut getting 76.6% to hawaii's 23.4%

the eastern league was a much tighter race, with maine squeaking by on just 55.7% to georgia's 44.3%

Northeastern Conference: Maine over New York

the narrowest race was georgia vs louisiana, with georgia eking out a mere 53.2% to louisiana's 46.8%

the biggest defeat was that of ohio by nunavut, with a final score of 86.4% to just 13.6%

the closest race this time was south carolina vs georgia, with a final score of 55.7% to 44.3%. (this time colorado was in the second-closest race, where after an initial lead it was edged out by wyoming)

the biggest landslide was louisiana vs missouri, with a vote of 78.8% to 21.2%. big win for the sportsman's paradise!
