The family settled in Magnolia around a decade after the town was founded -- though, in the past, certain members of the family have tried to claim that they were there for the town's inception. It’s uncertain where the family’s money came from; some claim it was from treasures brought back from the crusades by Knights Templar ancestors others believe it was through darker magical means. Over the years the wealth has lessened and the family home, once grand and imposing on the edge of town, has started to fall into a state of disrepair.

Owing to the family’s jaded history of blood-magic and sacrifice, and its inevitable conflict with their faith, Jaqcues Beaufoy, Sebastian’s great-grandfather, banned the practice of witchcraft in the family in 1856, wanting to save future generations of Beaufoy’s from eternal damnation. 

This prohibition on magic continued until Sebastian Beaufoy, at age eleven, found an old grimoire in the attic and tried his hand at the first spell he came across. His mother, Isabelle (who had made her husband take the Beaufoy name so she wouldn’t be the last of her line) was furious and quickly made an example of Sebastian in front of his siblings. Then, four months later, when their father suddenly passed away, the blame was placed on Sebastian’s wickedness.

Things became difficult in the Beaufoy house after that; Isabelle’s violent temper and pious nature made life unbearable for her children, especially those who, like Sebastian, discovered they had the curse of magic.

Sebastian was the first to fly the nest, travelling to New York for college, not returning until Isabelle fell ill some twelve years later. After her death in 2012 he remained in town, having married his childhood sweetheart, and, though the Beaufoy family home was supposed to pass to him, he let his sister take it, unwilling to live in a house that held so many bad memories for him.

It’s been ten years since Isabelle’s death and most of the Beaufoy siblings still struggle to reconcile the strict way they were raised with how they want to live their lives. Those with magic have been taught to view it as a curse and see it as a one way ticket to damnation. They’ve remained as close as they can given their history but sometimes find it’s hard to let go of the past and forget the lessons their mother taught them. Basically I want a tight-knit family that don’t always see eye to eye but are constantly in each others business and all that good stuff.

This is a mess but thanks if you got this far. The siblings are mostly open, I’d like a sister for the second born but other than that, if anything takes your fancy please let me know.

Diana Wells met Peter Weber at her debutante ball and the two quickly fell in love. The son and heir of a wealthy local mining magnate, he was quick to propose to Diana and the pair lived happily ever after. At least, they did for a time. Peter passed away in 1991 after a long period of illness, leaving Diana with three children, a business she didn’t know how to run, and his vast family fortune. 

Enter William Matthews, a wealthy businessman with interests in the oil industry. When their courtship began the gossip around town couldn’t decide if he was after her money, or if it was the other way around. Regardless, the pair were soon married and started having kids of their own. 

They were a happy family, rich but relatively normal. That is until Diana’s second born, Thomas, went missing at age 16 after going camping with his friend in the local woods. His disappearance put immense strain on the family and, in the 22 years since, many (if not all) of his siblings have given him up for dead. William died two years ago and, of course, his money went to Diana. Then, only a month ago, Diana passed.

And that’s when Thomas (now going by Dylan) decided to return to Magnolia.

Of course, he had no way of knowing that his mother had kept him in her will or that he stands to inherit a vast amount of money, but it’s safe to say that most of his siblings are less than happy -- some going as far as to question whether he really is who he says he is or if he’s just a con artist looking for a pay day.

With the amount of money that has been left (not to mention things like property and business interests) it’s everyone for themselves, so expect double-dealing and backstabbing a la Knives Out.

It’s a messy and intricate web of intrigue but, beyond that, it’s pretty much open. Aside from the rough ages provided, everything else is pretty much up to you (save for the oldest being a brother). Faces are also open and do not have to be white for any sibling except the Weber’s. Also the Weber-Matthews are cousins to the Bloom family. Because these are pretty open and don’t really need much input from me, feel free to just yell at me if you want to reserve a spot and we can talk things out when the discord goes live.

Final note: Dylan is a Dreamwalker, though that’s from his fathers side of the family. The Matthews siblings can be witches/dreamwalkers/psychics (obviously depending on who makes the first one).
