“That sounds amazing. I’d love to try some! Maybe not the cactus, but everything else sounds good.” And there was Edna, making comments about how cacti were good for…cleaning out the system, or something.

Sorey did his best to ignore the odd conversation that started from there as he began walking down the road that Asbel had pointed to.

Asbel made a face. “You’re wise to not try it. Just make sure you have plenty of water when traveling across the desert. The locals know the best places to refill until you get closer to capital.”

They continued on to the apple trees - moving closer to the garden and the manor. At their right a bridge arched over a stream leading to Lhant’s market. It was small, but Asbel was working on growing Lhant under his watchful eye. Welcoming traveling merchants who brought wares strange and familiar.

With a light hum he tilted his head. “We try to sell any extra the town doesn’t need. On big market days - the ladies bake pies to sell to travelers and any leftover are sent to the tavern or those in need. I have heard of private orchards in the country doing something like you say.”
