As you probably know starting at a hideously early age I poured out reams and reams of music—songs, piano works, chamber music, orchestral works, oratorios—only slowing down when I reached the age of wisdom, or, rather, when I left the age of innocence.

The poet can class things so audaciously because he is sensible of the celestial flowing from which nothing is exempt; his own body also is a fleeing apparition… As one said, in certain hours we can almost pass our hand through our own bodies. I think the use or value of poetry to be the suggestion it affords of the flux or fugaciousness of the poet.

Book stores always remind me that there are good things in this world.
