this is gospel to me
do you think a cemetery angel and a gargoyle could fall in love
to draw this was a very impulsive decision
they seem so sad <33
“why are you like that” because im full of love and whimsy and childlike wonder
There are a lot of people in the notes saying, basically, "Yeah, that's polyester for ya!"
but, the thing is
even polyester fabric was higher quality in the past
yes, not all of it, but, still, a noticeable amount of older polyester was...nicer.
yeah, it would still get picks and hold on to every bit of underarm odor, and that's on top of no-one knowing about microplastic shedding
but a 1950s Wash'n'Wear shirt, or 1970s double knit pantsuit, or 1980s neon sweatshirt, or a 1990s slinky knit or crushed velour mock turtleneck...so many of them would have been significantly higher quality than the fast fashion of today.
i work in historical costume. i work in a big-ass warehouse, with hundreds of thousands articles of clothing dating back over 100 years (for original pieces).
the BLINDING difference in clothing quality between even the 1990s and the mid-2000s...not even going in to the decline in quality of clothing made in natural fibers (jeans with elastane, i'm looking at you), I've got faux-leather trousers from 1980s that are in near-mint condition, even after being hired and worn repeatedly for the past 40 years. we get donations of clothing that shows and films have bought online for contemporary shows that are disintegrating after being used on one show, for like....10 days, max.
don't even get me started on the seam allowances we used to get in clothes, because the assumption was you'd alter it at some point...
they hate you. they hate the planet. they have drip fed you worse and worse quality clothing until you don't even realize you're being sold Garbage
i have a suggestion

JENNIFER'S BODY | 2009 dir. Karyn Kusama
music not hitting, phone not hitting, Minecraft not hitting, food not hitting, mouth taste like blood, death comes for us all
👀 Jennifer's body style au where Lexa is a demon from the start, she's like super popular and all the girlies want a piece of her but because demon rules she still needs to kill men and Clarke is her nerdy best friend who is *absolutely not* in love her with her bestie and who is *so* straight
She's dating Finn who suddenly turns out dead and Clarke decides to investigate it only to find out the girl she considers her "platonic" soulmate killed him
Thing is, Lexa needs the blood. And although they have been friend since they were like 11, Lexa actually doesnt know Clarke is trans which means demon rule wise she *could* just feed from Clarke to keep alive...
Lexa is nicer to Clarke than Jennifer to Neddy, she is always saying how cute she is and how smart but she is also BIG jealous of Finn who by high school standards is a pretty nice boyfriend, although he keeps being a little pushy about sex and Clarke hasn't told him she's trans so she feels a little pressured and Lexa "makes fun" of her for not going all the way but only because she is quite jealous and calls Clarke a slut when she tells her she has let Finn feel up her chest as if Lexa hasn't been eaten out in one of the school bathrooms by a senior girl in her sophomore year
Clarke does have a unhealthy attachment and obsession with Lexa. Which Finn really dislikes because 1. Lexa is known for "turning girls gay" , 2. She is pretty much a bitch to anyone who isnt Clarke and 3. She is well known for hating men, and Finn is no different
I think at this point, Finn does like Clarke more than Clarke likes him. Like he is in love and Clarke was but is clearly falling out of
That's how Lexa gets him... she tells him she wants to talk about Clarke because she is worried and it is sweet that he immediately goes with her.... his death his investigated because Lexa tends to make it look accidental but with Finn her jealousy makes it fucking brutal

seeing people say "this trope has been done to death" as if that's ever stopped anyone from eating bread. BREAD HAS BEEN DONE TO DEATH FOR LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND WE STILL WANT MORE BREAD. write your chosen one AU. write your coffee shop meet-cute. write your 47th iteration of "there was only one bed" because guess what??? we're still hungry.
you have to get that when someone calls a woman mannish as an insult, that's uncomplicatedly just misogyny
punishing women for perceived failures to perform patriarchal femininity is not remotely "misandry," because it's not about a hatred of men or masculinity. it's about punishing women for not performing our roles. men don't get punished for being men
furthermore, I think a lot of people, trans women included, lose the capacity to understand this when the target is a trans woman. transphobia doesn't cancel out misogyny just because it misgenders trans women. the transphobia provides cover for the misogyny
transphobia is an excellent trojan horse for misogyny, because it suggests its target could not be a target of misogyny in the same breath that it, you know, targets its targets with misogyny. your shooter is arguing that you're biologically immune to bullets while shooting you
if I tell you that women are being put in men's prisons and subjected to sex slavery in which they are called the "wives" of male inmates they become the property of, does it change anything that these women are trans? does that make it not misogyny? look at who benefits from misogyny and who is bound by it

Oh wow, you actually wrote it! Thank you!!! That was even better than what I was thinking 💛
Im glad you liked it ☺️
I've been having a hard time writing so it was a nice change of pace just to do a little word vomit of something I try to avoid in my own fics (cheating and unresolved angst) 🙂↕️
i dont think we gave the hunger games (books) enough credit for making katniss a 'bad victim'. Like she hurts people (including herself). Badly and repeatedly. In wretched ways both unintentionally and intentionally. She resists treatment and a good part of her suffering comes from people trying to make her palatable. And i love her
the thing about the hunger games novels is that they're genuinely good literature dismissed as typical of the YA dystopia genre that they literally pioneered because everyone who tried to imitate their success failed to understand what made them so brilliant in the first place (actual solid sociopolitical foundations upon which the world of the text was built and a refusal to engage in spectacle with an uncritical eye, as well as a firm anti-war stance that did not waver in its consistency even for the revolution).

Is it bad that after reading the first chapter my brain went to angst central.
Lexa is in love with Clarke always has been, Clarke doesn’t love her
Years go by, she’s heard about Clarkes lovers she’s knows Clarke doesn’t love her
Clarke realises she loves Lexa, Lexa doesn’t love Clarke anymore
While not where that fic is headed at all, can you imagine? 👀
They are an arranged marriage. Clarke is perfectly sweet with Lexa, she isn't rude nor a bad wife. However Lexa knows Clarke does not love. Lexa however has been in love with Clarke for as long as she's known love. And she thought she could handle a marriage like this, after all, it is important for both of their families and she does love Clarke enough to over look her lack of love towards her. They are friends and Clarke can so easily read through her, see her soul in a way no one else can and perhaps there is a promise there, of maybe one day, love can be a possibility.
But soon friendship does not make the marriage feel less lonely. Does not permit Lexa to close her eyes to the lovers Clarke takes despite their marriage vows, something at first Lexa almost encouraged, thinking perhaps she'd go and realize Lexa was everything she wanted when others couldn't be exactly who she wanted them to be. Clarke is wonderful in bed but she is unable to make Lexa feel loved like one is supposed to in a marriage. Just an act to please them both.
They are young, and so Lexa apologizies to Clarke and her family but she simply cannot stay with her.
And Clarke feels this emptiness now that she is gone. Like the house is haunted by someone who is still alive. However free as she is now from her marriage, Clarke lives her bachelor life for a couple of years, to try and fill the house with parties and music and sex, as if it will quiet the ghost of the woman she never could say she loved and somehow was perhaps the closest person to her, as she knows she was to her.
She finds her once more at a ball. Rare always was for Lexa to attend these. And yet the moment Clarke sees her, its like her heart mends, like the ghost is alive once more.
Should she not run to her and confess her love? Beg her to take her back, rekindle their marriage and allow Clarke to devote herself to her like she should have the first time around.
Lexa was everything Clarke could have wanted. A companion who always listened to her hurts and taught Clarke to be the woman so many praise her for being. Intelligent and wise, with a dry humor that matched Clarke's own so much. Were they not a match made in heaven? Were they not meant to be?
And then Lexa turns to the side. The swell of her stomach rather obvious even with the dress that flows around her. A ring that shines on her finger and the arm of a woman who wraps around her waist in a way Clarke only ever did briefly before she ran away to someone she thought more deserving of her attention than her wife.
Lexa stares at the woman she once loved across the room. She looks tired, haunted. Despite everything, Lexa hopes is not her own ghost that stares back anytime Clarke looks in the mirror. She loved her once. Cared for her heart more than she did her own. She hopes she is well. Her heart belongs to Costia now and the child they have created and will soon be here. She wishes to Clarke no ill.
She wishes only for her to love another, as Lexa learned to love one that isnt Clarke.
