If grace is water, then the church should be an ocean, Cause it's not a museum for good people, it’s a hospital for the broken
Jefferson Bethke (x)
Father, You are our protector, You are our comfort when times are hard. You carry us when we can't carry ourselves and when we put our faith in You, amazing things happen. I know this and I thank You that this is Your way. I pray that those who are hurting and are finding it hard to know what to do would feel Your love and be guided by You as they step forwards and make the decisions that they're so frightened of having to make. You are wonderful Lord, and Your love is infinite and life-changing. Give them strength, comfort and peace. Lead them to Your arms, I pray. In Your holy name, amen.

"...You may be innocent and pure as God's perfect children, who live in a world of corrupt and sinful people. You must shine among them like stars lighting up the sky, as you offer them the message of life."
- Philippians 2:15-16
too much - rend collective experiment
The tempo of my heart beat, adjusts to match the moment Your presence wraps around a dust-formed man You’re close enough to whisper, the infinite is imminent The one who bought my heart with blood draws near
Emmanuel, God is in this place Emmanuel, You are here And I try to take it in, the beauty of it all The beauty of You My heart waits still and quiet and contemplates the mystery Of glory juxtaposed with sin-stained man It’s like two lovers meeting but instead of lips connecting My soul is pressed against true love himself
Emmanuel, God is in this place Emmanuel, You are here And I try to take it in, the beauty of it all The beauty of You But I admit defeat, it’s all too much for me You are just too much for me
I've been having an amazing few days with the Father. The roof of the opera house here in Montpellier is flat so you can go up and sit there and look over the city, and yesterday I went up there on my own, just taking in this place that is my home for the next 8 months and I just thought, wow. I am so grateful to have this experience.Â
I will say, this next experience was after a drinking game, which isn't exactly when you expect to be given an opportunity to witness but God works in mysterious ways ;) I was at a friend's house for drinks before we went out and one of them has a guitar so I picked it up and started playing "Love Came Down" by Ben Cantelon - a song I know one of my friends loves (despite not being a Christian). So there we are - Gogs screaming, "HOW CAN YOU PLAY THE GUITAR WHEN YOU'RE DRUNK IT'S NOT FAIR", Tobi pretty much asleep, Charlotte and Ellen having an intense conversation - and amid all this chaos, there's me, Chris and the Father, just sharing a moment. Indescribable.
Father, I want to thank you that every day you give us opportunities to share our faith in you with others. Thank you for the gifts you've given us all, for the experiences we've been blessed with and I just pray that we use these to glorify you and to tell more people about how amazing you are.

Sometimes the best and most appropriate prayer is only two words
Thank You.
Come on, my soul Let down the walls And sing, my soul
rend collective experiment - come on my soul
We all have times when we feel overwhelmed. When we feel like we can't carry ourselves anymore. But God, He doesn't need for us to always be strong and powerful and able to fight.
Isn't it wonderful to have a God who wants us when we're at our weakest?Â
Music.
It's an incredibly important part of my life. I always have music playing, sometimes it's loud and it's being played so I can dance about my room and sing while I'm supposed to be cleaning; sometimes it's just white noise for when I'm writing an essay or reading; sometimes it's something that I listen to and really, really listen to it, taking in the words, the melody, the harmony, the everything.
Music brought me closer to God.
When I was little, and I used to go to church with my godparents when we were visitng them, the hymns used to make me cry. It was a song that made me suddenly realise that I wanted - no, I needed God in my life. When I became a fairly regular church-goer, the first thing I did was ask to be involved in the worship group. My godbrother and I have often talked about looking into becoming worship leaders along the same lines of Tim Hughes and Lex Buckley. We're only ever half-joking.
The point is, music is one of those things that unites us. I don't think there's one song on my iPod that doesn't remind me of someone. It might be as simple as the song having appeared in a film I'd seen with a friend - but every song I listen to has an emotional connection to someone or something.
So with that in mind, I often wonder how non-Christians react to music that isn't Christian music but is nonetheless written or performed by Christians. One immediate example springs to mind: Owl City.
Now, Owl City is an artist that divides a lot of people. Personally, I loved Fireflies at first but after the tenth day of hearing it at work it started to grate on me. But for me, it's all about Meteor Shower.
I can finally see that you're right there beside me I am not my own, for I have been made new. Please don't let me go, I desperately need you.
The lyrics, the imagery - so much of it is Jesus-centric. Even the syntax of the lyrics scream to me, this is about God. I have read so much debate about this - some say it's between him and God, others say that it's between him and someone he's fallen in love with.
I find it interesting that the argument people put forward for this not being about God is that it's a song written for someone who has been and will always be by his side but they've only just realised this; someone who has turned his life upside down and all for the better; someone whom he loves so ardently that he cannot imagine being parted from them, not now, not ever.
... Sorry, are you sure we're not talking about God here?
Of the people who do say that this is a song between two people in love, they all seem to notice something unusual about the love this singer has for the other person. Words like all-consuming, passionate, life-changing frequently come into play - words that don't tend to be used to describe a relationship. How interesting, then, that for Christians, these are the kinds of words we use to describe the relationship we all have with our Father. I can't help but wonder, when it comes to a song like this which feels so much like worship - do non-Christians subconsciously pick up on the Christian elements of it, the fervour of our (and Adam's) love for God - but simply transplant it to the kind of relationship they can best identify with?
I don't know, it's not for me to decide how other people interpret this song. But it does seem to me that they are, unbeknownst to them, tapping into the love of a believer for their God.

And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop us? And if our God is with us, then what could stand against?
Two simple lines that constantly remind me of the unfailing love and strength our Father gives us. If we've got the Creator, the Almighty on our side, how could we ever think that any of our battles are lost?
